Ruger Precision Rifle
Just received a RPR in 6.5 Creedmore and mounting a Leupold Mark 6 3-18x44mm scope.
Put an Atlas bipod on it.
Hope to zero it this weekend, and then dial it in to ring steel at a mile.
I go to Thunder Valley Precision in Ohio for long range shooting. He has steel at 200yds, 300yds, 400yds, 500yds, 600yds, 700yds, 1,000yds and 1 mile.
My .308 Rem 5R reaches the 1,000yds easily with 175gr Federal GMM."Having a gun and thinking you are armed is like having a piano and thinking you are a musician" Col. Jeff Cooper (U.S.M.C. Ret.)

Re: Ruger Precision Rifle
You won't be disappointed with the RPR. Check out this thread: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_16_3/22...ion_Rifle.html
I'm only here for the wood c-rings.

Re: Ruger Precision Rifle
Here's a pic when I was zeroing the rifle.
I have since changed the scope mount and need to re-zero.

Re: Ruger Precision Rifle
Are you rolling your own Boolits? I got mine in .243 and so far I haven't found a load it likes. It was shooting better with factory 85grain softpoints than the Hornady V-max I'm feeding it. I'm talking 2-3 MOA

Re: Ruger Precision Rifle
Thanks for showing us your gem...
When you're shooting for zero from a bench, consider removing the bipod? It's just extra stuff that rattles around no matter how you dog it down.
Can I ask you what rounds you were using (bullet weight, etc?)
Please keep the forum posted on what works for you - but ESPECIALLY what doesn't work! Most folks here (that can be trained) can be trained to be vicarious learners - instead of having to make the same mistake 10X, they learn not only from all of my mistakes, but possibly from one or two of yours too!
Thanks again for taking the time to post. Can't wait to read the follow-up!- bamboomaster

Re: Ruger Precision Rifle
If I gotta shoot something a mile away I'm getting in my truck and driving over to where I can actually see it.
I don't get into long range shooting, but it's cool that you found a place like that.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

Re: Ruger Precision Rifle
Mine is 6.5 Creedmoor and I am shooting Hornaday 140gr ELD Match.
I should have some good groups to report tomorrow after I finish the zero."Having a gun and thinking you are armed is like having a piano and thinking you are a musician" Col. Jeff Cooper (U.S.M.C. Ret.)

Re: Ruger Precision Rifle
One mistake I made with this was to buyt a 20 moa mount not knowing the rail that came with the gun was already 20moa.

Re: Ruger Precision Rifle
Long range shooting is addictive more so than handguns or AR15's. You take a shot, hear the report of the rifle and wait a couple seconds to see the steel swing in the distance through the scope and a tad bit later you hear the gong of the steel.
With good scopes ($$$$.$$) you can see the targets very well.
