Re: Trick or Treating
I'm surprised ours is still held at night.
I think it's from 7 til 9pm.
As kids growing up out in the country, we went from whenever the sun set until there were no more porch lights left on.
And open carry? Well, some kids put on their hunting clothes and carried rifles or shotguns - real ones.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

Rules are written in the stone,
Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.

Re: Trick or Treating
We're so far off the beaten path that we haven't had a single trick or treater in the 12 years we've lived here. Heck, even Streaker has trouble finding the place! The 31st is just another work day around here...
Resistance to tyrants is obedience to God.

Re: Trick or Treating
A lot of the boroughs and towns near me do a "trunk or treat" for the younger kids in the weeks preceding Halloween. They gather at schools and decorate their vehicle and the kids trick or treat that way. The older children still do it at the homes on the 31st. When I lived in Philly they celebrated on the 31st but when I was an adult there was a big shift to Halloween parties for safety.
Some people just plain suck.

More evidence of the wussification of America. Kids should go out AT NIGHT for Halloween, and there should not be government "hours" for when kids can trick or treat. It should be up to the people giving out the candy. Heck, we used to go out for "Mischief Night" the evening before Halloween. Everyone was fine with it.

Re: Trick or Treating
I lived in South Phily. Depending on which direction you walked a few blocks could mean a different world. I live in Primos at the moment and was in Clifton for the previous 9 years and while some say it is a bad area I think it is fine. We take the kiddies out for a few hours as soon as it gets dark and come back home at about 8:30 or so. I guess it is all relative. If I lived in Camden during the late 90's I most likely would have barricaded us up in a "safe" room for the 30th and 31st.
