    Default CZ-52 magazine sticky

I got a CZ-52 for $125 from SOG. It is really nice shape and the barrel is like a mirror. My only complaint is the magazine. When I pull the release back, the magazine does not drop. It's rather difficult to pull out. Is this normal? Does it typically just drop out or is it expected to have to have to tug on it? (the mag you pervs)

Mine just needs me to pull it. Not hard or soft. I hope that helps. It doesn't drop out, and shouldn't.

I'm not an expert on the CZ-52, but I have 2 of them and they are both the same way.

Thanks both of you. After having hand guns in which you simply hit the mag release and drop it to your hand, it seems rather odd to have one that is so difficult to pull out. I'll have to figure out how to remove it easier. If I hold the gun with one hand and pull back on the release with the other, it will be tricky to pull the mag at the same time while maintaining the muzzle down range.

I'm pretty sure the CZ-52 was designed that way. It's really the only thing I don't like about it. The blazing muzzle blast helps me get over it though. I do recall seeing on a CZ forum, where a guy installed a homemade mag release. Unforturnatly it didn't look like a project I'd want to try on my gun. (Drilling, filing, etc.)

Mine don't drop out either the way they do on modern semi autos. Like River Rat said, they aren't supposed to because that type of release is the pull out kind. Makarovs have the same style of release and you have to pull it out yourself as well.

I wish that was the only concern I had with my cz 52. Thing has a problem with the slide lock catch/take down latch pin walking out during firing.

Let me know if this happens to yours. I paid too much for mine. I really need that C&R !

The CZ52, Maks and older service handguns were designed that way so the shooter would save their mags rather than drop them in the field, come back and ask for more. That's why often you will see mags numbered to the pistol.

The CZ 52 were designed and built over 50 years ago, its a military side arm not a IDPD competition Gun built for matches, it were not designed to have drop free mags like a match gun. Its built the way most guns are built, to hold the mag inside untill its removed by the shooter, Glocks were built this way too until American IDP types start demanding free fall Guns, either way it doesnt bother me, remember , you are the weapon. Sand the Mags lightly with some fine sandpaper or steelwool and wipe down with some WD40 should free it up a bit.
