Want some fun? Try removing S&W AR Sporty FSB pins
What douches. The front sight pins are domed at both ends. I prick-punched the center of the dome hoping to drill as some recommend. Couldn't drill, pin too hard. WTF.
Ground the cap off and then the pin and surrounding metal were one, with no discernible difference and unable to see the pin. That made determining pin diameter impossible, and choice of pin punch a WAG.
Unable to determine where to drive, I tried witness marks outside of another button...one at 3 o'clock and one at 6. Then I ground it down and pounded at the intersection indicated by the marks. No joy.
This rifle belongs to a friend who brought it over to install a low block and floating rail. That allowed an alternative. Dremel-cut the damned thing off. That worked.
I think the "Sporty" (M&P 15-2) or II is engineered to lower manufacturing costs and lower the price point. The trade-off is shit like this. :-(

Nah. A new hammer costs money. Just smash the muzzle into the ground a few times, filling the muzzle with dirt, chamber a round, and pull the trigger. That should take care of that pesky front sight block.
^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ Just for the laugh. This is a VERY bad idea. ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^

Why did the rounded end keep you from punching the pins out? They are taper pins and only go one way.

Re: Want some fun? Try removing S&W AR Sporty FSB pins
As I said, the ends have dome-shaped ends. The diameter of the dome is much larger than the body of the pin. Maybe I should have said mushroomed. You cannot drive a .120" mushroomed end thru a .090" bore. And that is a hypothetical...I am not saying they are the actual dimensions. Sorry for the poor description of the pins.

And what size drill would you select using a wild-assed-guess?

Re: Want some fun? Try removing S&W AR Sporty FSB pins
Assuming you are no longer going to use the FSB anymore is it possible you can use a dremel and a grinding stone to take down the mushroom end and then punch it out? If not then I would use a bit the diameter of the mushroomed end drill that out then punch the rest out as normal.
I have had similar issues working on old beater SKS's where the pins in several placed would not budge.Join the GOA & save $5.00. https://www.gunowners.org/mac-subs-join-goa.htm
