You are good with a 1/4" pull. My single stage ar's are worked to about an 1/8". The important check is to make sure it's negative geometry. Basically, tilt you're upper pull the trigger real slowly and watch the hammer. The hammer needs to go "cock further" as the trigger is pulled. Or go down into the lower if that makes more sense. DON'T let the hammer drop fully, use your thumb to block it. Pop the upper on, pull trigger and hold, recock, release trigger and ensure disconnector caught, released and the trigger caught the hammer. Repeat that many times to ensure you'll never have a "runaway".

I've done the function check for proper engagement/ disengagement of trigger, hammer & disconnector. It was just that short pull that caught me off guard. Depending on who wins I'll probably get a stripped lower just so i have it. Id also like to get the KNS pins & a ambi safety but right now all of that is on hold. I appreciate the info & reaffirming the fact that it's GTG, now I just need to hit the range

I don't know how to say this without maybe looking like an ass, but your first post struck me with OMG!

A friend who has worked at a gun store for over 30 years and builds all kinds of stuff called me up and asked me to assemble a round sans propellant so he could function test an AR build. He didn't want to let an unproven bolt and trigger system slam against a live round at his home work bench, and he doesn't reload ammo.

I assembled a round and drilled the case body with a few holes so it was readily identifiable as a test round. I also installed a piece of rubber in the primer pocket.

Bottom line, you took a (admittedly) remote risk dropping the bolt on a live round, but it is risk.

In a case like this, what about a snap cap?

I dont think a snap cap would do much good, the rifle functions it just had a short pull, i can check disconnector & everything without a dummy round

Checking the feed, extraction and ejection functions calls for a real round, not a snap cap. I'm just suggesting that an unproven new build should be checked out using a dummy round.

Well so far what i DO know is that I put a round in the throat, closed the bolt completely & it ejected the round between 2 & 3 o clock & backwards. I dont have snap caps so I checked it the not so safe way

That sounds about right. Get that puppy to the range and make some music.

Dunno if you reload. My built at a gun show upper was denting brass on ejection. Brass hits the angled bounce pad as it should. I super-glued a piece of inner tube rubber on it. That stopped the denting. Now I have it on the Spikes Tactical too.
