    Default Hello from NC.

My company asked me to look at taking a job position in Pensauken Nj. So I decieded to see what Pa. is about. So hello all and maybe moving in. The firearm laws so far have given me a headache trying to read them. Looking at housing and cost of living has given my wife and I a headache. So some of the laws in Pa. say you have to have your guns in a locked case when transporting them? WTF? Can anyone recommend any areas to live with lots bigger than .2 acres? Cost of living looks higher and there is a work tax? I have some NFA items that i will need to bring in. Any 1000 yard ranges and NFA friendly ranges would be nice also. Looking at maybe 1hr driving from Nj. Thanks all.

To merely transport a "firearm"(handgun, SBS, SBR) in/on/upon a vehicle requires a LTCF, with exception for transits between exempt locations which then most exemptions require the "firearm" to be securely encased. If you have your LTCF you can carry/transport as you like - encased, carried openly, carried concealed, duct taped to your forehead, etc..

Rifles and shotguns do not need to be in a case in PA. However, they cannot be loaded in a vehicle.

With except of the vehicle carry and the recorded transfer of "firearms", PA's gun laws are better than TX or FL.

PA gun laws are generally favorable. I left NJ, where gun laws are absurd and going to get worse, for PA. PA does have an income tax as does NJ. I am not sure if you get a credit for taxes paid in two jurisdictions. Can't assist on 1,000 yard ranges or NFA questions. If you decide to come, welcome!

Obviously, from your toy description, living in PRNJ (Peoples Republic of New Jersey) is not an option. The problem with working in Pennsauken and living in PA is the city of Philadelphia is between work and the better places to live. Bigger lots, no wage tax (I think). Still costs more than NC though.

You mentioned a one hour drive, so that means getting on I-95 and going either N or S to Bucks or Delaware/Chester? counties. I will leave it to guys from lower Bucks or Delco/Chesco to pitch their respective pros and cons. There is also the city if you choose to become an urban denizen, but the difficulty in permit acquisition there is one barrier and I do not know about the NFA stuff.

In any case, welcome, if you decide to make the leap, PA is the last free state in the NE and we are working hard to keep it that way. Do your due diligence and you may find your own little piece of heaven as it were. We like when gun friendly folks move in so that it keeps another lib out!

You better be getting a boatload more money to take this kinda hit on your quality of life.

You are looking at 8-10 degrees colder average daily.
Winter driving is such a joy.
    Philly driving.......Shudder.

Winter anti-icing treatment on the roads eats away your car in short order.

Working in the communist peoples socialist workers paradise of New Jersey? Go check it out before saying yes.

Having said all that, with a license to carry, you can carry in your car, no sweat.
Just not never ever, not nowhow, not no way in NJ.

Every hollow point bullet is illegal in Jersey, including a .22 short. Can you say felony?

Personally I would stay in NC if you are happy.

Commuting to NJ sucks. Everything about NJ sucks.
If you want to move, live, and work in Pa that's a different discussion.

Thanks for the replies. Going up to the facility next week to look at it. Cold doesn't bother me. I grew up in Wv hills. My wife is from Pittsburg. So you need a license to cary in Pa. Thats funny. I did see in big bold print out of state visitors cant cary in state so i will have blade on me. I will feel naked. So do the county sheriff's decide on this LTCF. What kind of wait time? I will also have to look and see how long i need to be a resident before i can apply. If I do take the leap it will be strange to be a mile from town and not be able to walk out onto my back porch to pop a deer or hog. I am not a city person so no city crap for me. Any town recommendations? Thanks again.

    What he said.

I would rather get a colonoscopy with a metal grinder than work in Jersey again.
Your guns are going to be a real problem living in Jersey (they won't allow many of them).
You won't be able to transport your carry gun in and out of Jersey to and from work (regardless of how you transport it) unless your a (retired) LEO.
The Pennsauken NJ area is a congested toilet for the most part.
PA across the river from Pennsauken NJ is a congested toilet also.
Unless you want to live in the congested Philadelphia area, your commute is going to be hell and very long.
To get to a nice area to live you will need to go through the greater Philadelphia area, or up and around it, and either commute will be hell (unless you work odd hours and stay off the roads during regular commuting and business hours).
Even if you miracled yourself through with zero traffic, you would be looking at a solid 60+ minutes of drive time to get to some open space in PA.

PA has reciprocity with NC. You can carry here on your NC ccp if you have it for your visit. If you make a move here, as soon as you get your PA drivers license you can apply for a PA LTCF. Some counties issue in 15 minutes. Some may make you wait (Philly is a whole different nightmare if you move there). It's $20 for five years. I looked over some of North Carolina's laws and things are largely the same here. If you're going to work in Jersey, don't even think about taking a gun there.

I knew Nj. Was a joke ever since i went to Newark and couldnt figure out what the smell was. Later I was told it was every sane person's hope and dreams. But when my company asks me to look on there dime, so be it. So to get away from stupid 1.5hrs N,S, or West is safe correct? Driving doesnt bother me to much. I usually go into the office at 5am. Really appreciate the feedback. Do i have to inform the CLEO that NFA items are coming into his county? I was told to look at Cherryhill, Mapleshade, and Mt. Laurel. Thoughts on this? Thank you.
