Default How long do you keep old magazines?

I need some help uncluttering. For whatever reason, I got on a mailing list that gets me free magazines. Not the "We'll send you three free and then bill you" kind, really free for a year or longer. And real magazines too, Sports Ill., Field & Stream, Readers Digest, to name a few.

Practically every magazine has an article or two I want to read, someday, so I put it on the stack to save for when I have some spare time. Well the stack became stacks, and the stacks became storage boxes, and the storage boxes became an unusable garage. I've gotten good at purging PC Magazine because any info in them is obsolete practically before it gets published, but some I can't bare to part with because something on the cover caught my eye and I might want it.

Does anyone have a rule of thumb for getting rid of magazines? I know I have issues stored that I'll never read, maybe, but at what point do you say, if I haven't read it yet, I never will?
You are a straight white man. You don't get to be the victim, sweetie.

I recently threw out a bunch of old Pittsburgh Magazines. I looked thru them when I got them at first, then thought it would be neat to save them...for years. Just got in a mood though to toss 'em as well as some others I had been saving.

I kinda glanced at the covers and thumbed thru them (in an attempt to say "I looked thru them and decided I don't need them".) I did save a couple from this scanning-thru process.

Anyway, maybe just rip out the articles you might like to read someday and toss the rest of the magazine?

Just have to get the courage and toss them!

And I figured also that any info I might need can be found on the 'net.

    Good luck!

People throw away magazines? I thought we all stock piled them forever. You know there's something in there that one day you'll need to prove a point to a buddy.

i enjoy reading nostalgic magazines from decades ago so i keep all of mine for that purpose years to come when im an old buzzard .....now i wouldn't recommend keeping ''all'' of them but a few wont hurt anybody or take up much space .....

i have a few magazines from the 50-60's and i get a kick out of reading the car stereo adds ....then i see the price for the cars , $5,000 GTO etc etc

I recently got @ 50 magazines because my "new" neighbor didn't know her address, I suppose. I politely returned them for 2 months and asked her to correct the error. Needless to say I still receive most of them AND with no bill. I read them and then throw them out.

    However...

I DO save all of the magazines in my job field. I do use them and refer to them. I wish I could save everything but if I did, there would be no place to live. Most public libraries will have most magazines so there would always be a chance that you could find what you are looking for there.

As a general rule of thumb..."If you haven't used it in a year, you don't need it." AND "When in doubt...throw it out!"
