Default What's the stupidest gun purchase you've made?

What's the dumbest firearm purchase you've made and why? Was it ridiculously overpriced, turn out to be a bad design, not work properly?

My dumbest buy was probably a Beistegui Bros. Spanish Made .32-20 revolver. These are poorly made copies of Colts that have a bad reputation due to construction from cheap steel. I picked it and a CVA kit percussion pistol up for $100. It came with a box of ammo which is worth more than the revolver. I'd never heard of Beistegui but thought for the price it couldn't be all that bad. I took it home and it's been in the safe ever since. It was a cheap mistake.

An Accelerator pistol in 5.7x28, $500 and it requires every screw to be tightened after 15 rounds to remain functional.

Would Loc-Tite work on the screws?

Unfortunately my mistakes haven't been cheap.

Every AR that I bought in 2013 (3 total) was way over-priced. I didn't know better at the time. I bought a Colt LE6900 which I believe was only in production for what seemed about a year. It is a sport upper (no FA or DC). If I had to guess it was Colt's attempt at the time to compete with the S&W M&P 15 sport and similar budget rifles. I like the rifle just fine, but I embarrassingly paid almost $1G for it. I can't find a smiley crying it's eyes out to insert here. I'm sure I could build/buy an Anderson based rifle every bit as good as this Colt which ironically from what I've read about it, wasn't even made by Colt.

Then I went and bought a Ruger SR556 because I wanted to have a Piston AR......shame on me again. I could pick one up today for probably $4-500 less than what I paid back then. This is one heavy ass AR.

And to complete my list- there's my Black Rain Ordnance AR Pistol. Not even going to mention it's price out of utter shame. It's a billet receiver group so there's that, but still- DAMN, I'm an idiot.

But I have them now and they are like red-headed children that I have to love anyway

Street sweeper.. It takes about a minute or so to load it, and just as long to unload it.
Its a stupid gun, actually worthless if you want to battle. Its a one and done gun.

Let's just say I'm the king of impulse buys and leave it at that. There have been plenty of guns I've instantly regretted buying and couldn't wait to unload. So with that in mind, this thread will be enjoyable to read 'cause it proves I'm not alone.

I wouldn't really call it stupid, but I definitely regretted it later....

RIA GI 1911 in 9mm. Why did I buy such a big ass, "heavy" pistol with crappy sights that only holds 9+1 of 9mm when my Shield holds 8+1 and weighs practically nothing? I sold it to fund one of my Shields.

    This was Alpacaheat's.

Sheer genius! Can't be fired from the shoulder, but there's another way to mount it the ATF apparently didn't consider. Gives new meaning to the thought of "whipping out your pistol"...

But it's only gonna work reliably if you're under 30, have forum ID similar to "Aggiesheat", or on CIALIS 24/7.

Too many possibilities to imagine - but that's definitely "out of the box" thinking.

My CZ Scorpion EVO 3 S1 because I over paid to be "first." I don't regret it though because apparently us early adopters have trigger groups that say "Designed by Laugo" which, after a falling out, they quickly shipped without that marking. Apparently there are a few folks to whom that means something, so if I were to sell it, I might get more than a "non Laugo" Scorpion.

However, I bought first in order to get the SBR paperwork going and I think I was the third one. I love this gun and the premium I paid to get in early was worth it.
