Default Question about firearm in vehicle.

So Saturday I am planning to goto the range but after the range, I wasn't planning on going home. Rather, going on a trip the rest of the day.

As long as the mags are unloaded, I can leave it in the vehicle all day while driving, right?

There is a lot of back and forth on previous posts. There is a lot of: "Yes that's fine" or "no" or "no, only to and from the range"

    Do you have a LTCF?

If the gun in question is a "firearm"(handgun, SBS, SBR), you will need a LTCF. If you have your LTCF - it doesn't matter how the "firearm" is carried. The exemption for unlicensed transporting is to/from/during - which would be of direct nature. A side trip is not of direct nature.

Long guns dont require a LTCF, so you could drive around with them if you don't have a LTCF. ...just make sure the mags are unloaded or in separate containers, and that you stay out of Philly.

One thing for sure, at the end of the day if you are not sure - don't do it.

Yes but those are good for firearms less then 16 inches correct? It's not a SBR so it won't help me.

I have my LTCF, it's not a SBR just a standard size AR. The mags would be separate or even unloaded and not going to philly, so I should be good to not worrying about going other places, right?

As long as you have a LTCF you should be fine not going directly from the range to home, granted if its a rifle the mags need to be in a separate container from the rifle:

§ 6106. Firearms not to be carried without a license.
    (a) Offense defined.--
    (1) Except as provided in paragraph (2), any person who
carries a firearm in any vehicle
or any person who carries a
firearm concealed on or about his person, except in his place
of abode or fixed place of business, without a valid and
lawfully issued license under this chapter commits a felony
    of the third degree.

    (b) Exceptions.--The provisions of subsection (a) shall not
    apply to:

    (11) Any person while carrying a firearm in any vehicle,
which person possesses a valid and lawfully issued license
for that firearm which has been issued under the laws of the
United States or any other state.
    (12) A person who has a lawfully issued license to carry
a firearm pursuant to section 6109 (relating to licenses) and
that said license expired within six months prior to the date
of arrest and that the individual is otherwise eligible for
    renewal of the license.

    Definitions are always important:

"Firearm." Any pistol or revolver with a barrel length less than 15 inches, any shotgun with a barrel length less than 18 inches or any rifle with a barrel length less than 16 inches, or any pistol, revolver, rifle or shotgun with an overall length of less than 26 inches. The barrel length of a firearm shall be determined by measuring from the muzzle of the barrel to the face of the closed action, bolt or cylinder, whichever is applicable.

This is all you need to know.

LTCF you're good for indirect travel with handguns. Long guns you're always good as long as they're unloaded as Knight described.

In that case, you are good. Your choice: unloaded mags, or loaded mags in a separate container.
