Any thoughts on Berks County for building a retirement home

Agreed. I prefer western Berks as it is further away from Philly influence. Mohnton is a great suggestion along with Cumru.

I grew up in the village of Plowville Berks County! Not far from Maple Grove Drag-O-Way. Lived their from 1959 to 1972. Loved every minute of till my fathers work moved us to the Lehigh Valley.

I don't know to much about this exact area. It has an Oley address. Oley itself is a very nice country area.
