    Default Removing Rollmarks (SWPA)

Anyone know of any gunsmiths in the Pittsburgh/SWPA area that can remove rollmarks?

Just curious as to what you want removed. On the barrel? Receiver? Import marks? Again, just curious.

Just the PSA logo from my PA-9 lower and other PSA lowers I may acquire (M16 clone, M16A1/A2 clone, M16A3/A4 clone, M4/M4A1 clone). Nothing else - serial number, caliber, manufacturer information and model number will not be touched.

About all someone could do is to machine away the metal with an end mill, leaving a pocket which would be at least as deep as the roll marks. Then spend a lot of time polishing out the tool marks. Then strip and redo the anodizing, which probably wouldn't match the finish of the upper. IMHO, it wouldn't look good.

Another bad option would be to try to fill the lettering with epoxy, sand it flush, and Cerakote it.

Does it look like this? You'd have two areas to work on, not just one.

No offense, but if you don't want a PSA, why are you buying a PSA?

Nothing against PSA. Decent quality for a decent price. I just don't like the rollmarks and for a replica setup, I'd rather not have it.

Have you considered finishing an 80% receiver?

I would go with a fill and refinish myself. Would be a lot easier then trying to refinish all the machined metal.

IF I could find them. And at ~$160 each and needing 7 of them for projects and the fact that they don't make a RO635 lower anymore...buying PSAs and having the crossed cannon rollmarks removed and replaced with historically accurate U.S. Govt engravings and M16, M16A1, M16A2, M16A3, M16A4, M4, M4A1 and SMG nomenclature becomes a viable choice.

I might be missing something but I don't see how you can buy a receiver, then have it re machined to remove the marks, then get it custom re-engraved, then get it anodized again for anywhere near $160. And x7?
