Re: Woman fatally shot by FLA LEO during "Gun Demonstration"
Really? So you really believe psychopaths can be rehabilitated? Not vengeance but punishment, or at least an example for better safety procedures. Two young men in Erie County are serving sentences for involuntary manslaughter for separate accidental shootings, with guns they both thought were unloaded. Not rehabilitation, punishment. They have nothing to be rehabilitated from, were both decent young men.

Re: Woman fatally shot by FLA LEO during "Gun Demonstration"
No it isn't. The point of prison is punishment. Now there are rehabilitative programs in prison, but if prison was meant to be rehabilitative, then an offender can attend the same classes on the outside. The point of probation and parole is rehabilitation. When you fuck up on probation or parole, back to prison you go (again, it's a form of punishment). When your crime is bad enough to warrant it, you go directly to prison and are not afforded probation.

Re: Woman fatally shot by FLA LEO during "Gun Demonstration"
This happens far too often.
Hand an unloaded gun to me, I check it.
Hand an unloaded gun to anyone, they should check it AFTER you checked it.
A sims classes I attended included sanitizing EVERY person involved of every firearm, knife and live bullet.
Each participant was patted down by an officer who know how to do it.
Every bathroom break, lunch break and anyone stepping out of the proximity of the instruction was checked every time.
We will all say it was inexcusable and we will continue to say it each and every time it happens and make no mistake about it, it will happen again.
It really does suck.Opinions are like anal apertures. They all stink but mine.

Coel was using a revolver that had been used before in these drills and Lewis said in the aftermath of the shooting "we were unaware that any live ammunition existed for this kind of weapon. We thought only blanks were available."Rules are written in the stone,

Re: Woman fatally shot by FLA LEO during "Gun Demonstration"
I suppose I should have known better than to try to express a simple but incomplete point on a touchy issue. So let's be clear: none of us are completely correct.
There are four primary purposes for prisons: rehabilitation, incapacitation, deterrence and retribution. "Punishment" falls under the wing of the latter two categories.
What I was really trying to get at is that it is pointless to punish honest mistakes. The people you are punishing already learned their lesson - they're already rehabilitated and deterred, and incapacitation is unnecessary as they are not a danger - and the people reading about it aren't going to change their behavior as a result (though we'd like to pretend otherwise).
