    Default MAN ACCIDENTALLY SHOOTS, KILLS SELF AT SPRING GARDEN GUN RANGE

    GARDEN (WPVI) -- Police say a 21-year-old man accidentally shot and killed himself at a gun range in Philadelphia's Spring Garden section.

    It happened at 7:14 p.m. Tuesday at The Gun Range, located on the 500 block of North Percy Street.

    Police say the man was cleaning his gun when he accidentally shot himself once in the chest.

    He was rushed to Hahnemann University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:38 p.m.

    "cleaning his gun" is coroner speak for "suicide but there's life insurance money to be had."

    He was only twenty-one...not sure insurance is something a 21 y/o typically has much of or worries about unless military.

    Most if not all gun rangers I have visited have Do Not Clean Your Firearms Here signs or something posted to that effect.

    I'm fairly sure The Gun Range is one of those.

    maybe the news bobble heads need to learn the meaning of "Clearing" and "Cleaning". Perhaps the young deceased had a jam and was in the process of "Clearing his weapon" albeit improperly, when it discharged and killed him. That would make more sense to me, Particularly if he was unfamiliar with that firearm.
