Police said Wednesday that the man was apparently handling the gun as if it were jammed when the firearm went off.

Damn! Sometimes people panic when a gun jams and just aren't thinking straight. Probably had a stovepipe and started messing with the slide forgetting he had his finger on the trigger and the pistol pointed at his chest.

I wonder how many "newer" gun owners actually know the safety rules?

or, how to clear a jam.

I can only speak for myself, but, I'd much rather help a new gun owner to clear a jam (and, show them how and why), and let my target wait for 5 minutes, than to see a life needlessly ended.

look, I will be the first one to make Darwin jokes about people taking selfies with guns. why? because it's Darwinism, plain and simple.

life lost due to inexperience and lack of help is just sad.

A lot of gun ranges have vice grips (those that don't you should encourage your range to get table grips). A chamber jam on a pistol is much easier to deal with when you got your hands completely free. I've had a few jams that required a flathead screwdriver to free.

I know Yuri (owner) has to be devastated. He cannot watch every microsecond and I know he catches mistakes, he's a good owner.

I still feel safer at TGR than a certain other gun range in Philly which I've been swept a couple times by teh stupids.

Last time I was in Target World (many years ago) , some one had a jammed pistol and was trying to pull the slide back with the muzzle pointed right down the firing line.
