Default Is this A Good Deal?

I'm thinking about getting into reloading as well, and I came across an ad in the local Tell-N-Sell:

    Lee 1k progressive loader
    .45 ACP
Comes with enough primers, shells, powder and bullets to make 500+ rounds
2-3 diff kinds of bullets, FMJ, lead nose, and some other kind...
and a table, if I want it.

    All for $175

    Whatcha think?

Leland- Keep in mind the Lee 1000 is for one caliber only. You do shoot .45ACP, right? The Lee 1000 goes for about $140. new. The primers and bullets are a nice thing to add to the deal, be very careful about open cans of powder. I'd pay 175, but I think I'd offer maybe 160.

    Also, PM on the way.

I did not know that. Yes, I do shoot .45 ACP, but I was hoping to be able to reload several other calibers if I got the hang of it and liked it. I was thinking about offering him $150, see what he said...

Don't know anything specific about Lee 1000 but if its one caliber then I would pass.

Believe me, YOU WILL be expanding into other cartridges. Unless funds prevent you from investing the start-up costs in a higher end convertible press you'd be better off putting the $$ towards better equipment.

Warning - reloading is an addiction that takes a life of its own

The Lee 1000 loader is not 1 caliber specific. You can buy different dies and shell plates and load what ever handgun caliber you want. I have one and love it.

For comparison, Midway has the Lee 1000 set up for $133 plus shipping.

Not even so much about better equipment, just more versatile equipment. Because you will enjoy it. You'll want to do other calibers.
You can get some good deals on Ebay for presses and dies.

I don't know much about Lee's, but if you can change out to other cals, then the $175.00 isn't bad.

With the Pro-1000 selling at about $140.00 retail it is a steal. We have bought 4 over the years and leave them set-up for our primary calibers by shell plate #. The turrets allow you to change the dies in just one easy step so we keep a die set for .38 special wad cutter, .38 special 125 hp., .357 Mag and .357 Max.
I had always wanted to try a Dillon 1050 but my whole reloading set-up did not cost what one of them would.
