I was at a parade in Hughesville, PA when I saw a police car (in the parade) approaching. A mother next to me grabbed her son who was a step or two in the road and in a loud, scary voice yelled at him, "Watch out - the police are going to get you!" She did not realize, I am sure, what she is teaching her children.

We were talking to a local officer regarding a community event where the police were interacting with the kids to try and do something positive for the community and he said one mother walks up to him with a small child and says something along the lines of "TELL him - tell him you gonna lock him up if he misbehaves!"
He tried to explain to her that he doesn't want little kids to FEAR the police because of those sort of threats - he wants them to feel that can come to them if they need help.
I doubt she understood and is it any wonder kids grow up fearing/hating the police?
