    Unhappy I had it............

    Long story short
    1. Lee doesn't make a crimp die for 38s&w
    2. Spoke to their engineer, tried everything he said, no go.
    3. Is there another crimp die that could be adapted to do the job ?
    4. How about another way ? Joe

Isn't there a roll-crimp shoulder in the bullet seating die? I can't imagine why you would want to taper-crimp a revolver round.

You can crimp it with the seating die. .38 S&W is a pretty low pressure round. It shouldn't need the crimping die.

I think he means s&w. Lee makes a factory crimp die for the special and .357 mag. I have one, although I haven't ever used it. I got it mainly, because I was going to get a .357 lever gun and I thought it might be worth it for that.

Lee's seating die is fully capable of roll crimps on both, the .38S&W and .38Spl.

I don't know where this "trend" of not using the seating dies to crimp started - but whether it be from reloader's ignorance or a marketing ploy, it is quite asinine and a waste of money when the vast majority of dies will crimp.

BTW, long-time Lee die user here. .32S&W, .32H&R, .38/.357, .38S&W, .44spl/mag, .45Colt, all of which will roll crimp.

I just took apart my Lee .38S&W seating die - it will do roll crimps.

Thanks fellows, first let me say the Lee engineer tried to explain to me how to make it crimp. I just couldn't get it to do that. All that happened is the bullet would be seated deeper but no crimp. I have a couple old bullets, factory loaded, and they do have crimps so I thought I had to do the same. Also I know the lead goes in the brass pretty far and is a bitch to get out, so I doubt the lead whatever fallout on its own. After loading 9 mm, to look at the S&W, it looks like something is wrong with them.

I'll be glad to listen to what you guys have to say. This site is worth its weight in gold. There is nothing like talking to a guys with knowledge and has ''been there and done that.'' Joe

I don't know how knight does it, but I post pictures from my phone to photobucket (usually by email), then just copy/paste the url into the insert image tab. Yes photobucket is a pia with pop-up ads.
