40 S&W fans recommend
I've owned enough 9mm and 45acp handguns, currently rotate between two 9mm, a Glock and a Walther for carry. Never owned a 40, thinking about giving one a try, would just like to have one gun other than 9mm. Still might get a 45, so many choices. My question is, can you 40 s&w fans recommend a 40 with a little less recoil than most other 40s. Checked out Genitron and by the numbers on that website Sig P229 had lower recoil score than most. But i would think actual experience with shooting a firearm give you better opinion. Thanks in advance PS i'm 62 not getting any younger

An older series, a little heavy, and a little hard to find but a great shooting gun and it's nice to have in a holster instead of a .380.

If your going full size, definitely look at the HK USP, Taken from their web site:
Using a modified Browning-type action with a special patented recoil reduction system, the USP recoil reduction system reduces recoil effects on pistol components and also lowers the recoil forces felt by the shooter. This same recoil reduction system has been tested and proven in the HK Mark 23 pistol developed for the U.S. Special Operations Command. The USP recoil reduction system is insensitive to ammunition types and requires no special adjustment or maintenance. It functions effectively in all USP models.
I have the USP Compact 40 and it is a delight to shoot, it has a neutered version of the full size recoil system with an integral buffer, I'm sure the full size is even nicer

Sig P229 is a good one, but look at the P226 too. If you want to save some money and buy a well-built, nice-shooting gun, there are lots of used P226's around, since it was a popular duty gun. That's one of the best guns you can get for 500 bucks.

I'd go with the HK USP full size in .40 S&W. It is popular for a reason.

Had a S&W gen 3 gun 4006. A bit bulky but all stainless and reliable. Same as their 9mm gun that was a duty weapon for thousands of police offices for a decade or so. I sold mine to a member on the board here. Can usually find them used in the $350-500 range. I even think Smith is still producing new versions.

If you're already carrying a Glock in 9, I'd say stick with that and get the 23. If you want a full size, the 35 is excellent.

Re: 40 S&W fans recommend
I've owned two 40S&W and they were both fantastic - one was an old taurus copy of a beretta the other was a sig-mauser...but my gut today is that a 10mm would be a great purchase and many can be cheaply converted for 40S&W as well...glock 20 is what I'm currently looking into.
