Monroe County Sheriff Needs to Go
Just received a reference request from Sheriff Todd Martin. The request came in a properly sealed envelope (good), but it did not come with a postage-paid return envelope (bad).
While this is not big deal for me ( I will respond for my friend); I believe there is a big problem in putting the burden of an envelope and postage on the taxpayer. Is it just me?
Also, I can foresee where a person will not go the extra mile to respond and someone loses a reference causing unnecessary delay, or even denial of a license.

Re: Monroe County Sheriff Needs to Go
Who is applying for an LTCF? If it's you, then filling in names and addresses on the LTCF application was all that was required. Anything additional would be in violation of the law.
If it's not you, but someone else, then the sheriff is violating the law by divulging to a third part that someone is applying for an LTCF.
It is a big problem, and not for the reason you cited.

Not for me; and the issues you raised are currently being addressed in a lawsuit here. Just raising a new issue because his current practice is suppose to be the remedy for his prior transgressions.

Re: Monroe County Sheriff Needs to Go
He's already being sued for requiring references, etc., (minus the lack of return postage).
If you want him gone start a campaign to oust him in the next election. You guys have the power, you just have to get the community to get rid of him.

Re: Monroe County Sheriff Needs to Go
I don't know....when I get my water bill from our (Bucks County) township, there isn't even an envelop, let alone one with a stamp on it.
Speaking of county sheriffs...ours does not send the 60-day notification on expiring LTCFs. That was just settled in court as part of another matter in another county. Seems sheriffs are excused from complying via some thing in another law that I didn't follow. Anyway, nothing can be done about a sheriff pocketing the $1.50 set aside for 60-day notices.

Re: Monroe County Sheriff Needs to Go
Your example is totally different. In your example, you are the one responsible for paying your own water bill. In the instant case, it is the sheriff who is responsible for conducting his investigation. He decides to use unapproved investigative measures (references); and then furthermore, he decides to shift the cost for those methods to the taxpayer. Finally, if the taxpayer is unwilling/unable to shoulder those costs, he then uses it as an excuse to deny a constitutional right (the license).
In the words of Henry Lee (so I don't get accused of plagiarism), "Something Wrong Here".Last edited by MachineGunKelly; July 27th, 2016 at 03:44 PM.
