Default Smith & Wesson buys Crimson Trace corp. For 95 million today.

Sales in S&W must be good to have that kind of cash? Saw story few hours ago.

That's probably a drop in the bucket for S&W.

Smith and Wesson seems to be on a spending spree.
Last week, they announced their Accessories Division, Battenfeld Technologies, was acquiring Taylor brands, which, has been producing S&W branded knife products, as well as, Schrade, Uncle Henry, Old Timer, and Imperial Knives.

S&W acquired Battenfeld Technologies from Midway USA, less than, twenty months ago.

From the S&W - Taylor Brands press release:
The company's firearms division brands include Smith & Wesson®, M&P®, and Thompson/Center Arms™. As a leading provider of shooting, hunting, and outdoor accessories, including reloading, gunsmithing, gun cleaning supplies, tree saws, and vault accessories, the company's accessories division produces innovative, high-quality products under several brands, including Caldwell® Shooting Supplies, Wheeler® Engineering, Tipton® Gun Cleaning Supplies, Frankford Arsenal® Reloading Tools, Lockdown® Vault Accessories, Hooyman® Premium Tree Saws, BOG POD®, and Golden Rod® Moisture Control

S&W benefits by smoothing its dependence on cyclical revenue from firearms, and improving profit margins by acquiring a supplier (CT) whose products are already offered as an option on many S&W firearms.

This makes a lot of sense on paper. But when acquisitions stumble, it is most often due to poor execution and integration.

I hope it succeeds. Mainly because I hate to see an iconic firearm brand succumb to poor management. Marlin, Remington, Colt, etc.

They are diversifying their holdings a little. In the boom/bust cycle of firearm purchases lately, they probably want to get into markets/products that have a little more supply/demand stability.

Just watch they'll probably do Dick's in reverse.
My prediction, they'll next get into various sporting goods: tents, camping supplies, then soccer balls. They'll then spin it off as a new brand so mom's don't have to buy balls with the S&W logo on them.

What S&W really needs to do, is get the h*ll out of the communist state of Mass. They should grow a pair and head to the southern states where freedom is still possible.

There are a lot of moms who WOULD buy their kids a S&W sports ball, I live with one.

    I'd buy a S&W football for sure.

They already make pepper spray, shooting glasses, knives and other camping supplies with their S&W name on them...almost bought a S&W knife this week but passed.

What we may see from this acquisition of CT is better development of CT lasers to make them built into the frame of a S&W gun instead of an add-on, or perhaps "Buy the S&W gun, get the laser free/discounted" promotions. They could make Smiths with lasers a better deal than a competitor's pistol with a laser.

Perhaps S&W could develop some bulletproof basketballs for the urban youth of America.
