Smaller to what? bore is still setup for 7.62 so the only round I can think of is 7.62x39 or maybe something like .30 carbine? I'm not sure

I saw something once for a shotgun. Looked line a steel shell with a small chamber and rifling in the middle for shooting pistol calibers.

Don't think there is enough room in the Mosin for anything like that.

If it's a smaller caliber then the bullet can't contact the rifling and can't build up pressure. I've seen those thigs with shotguns but I can't see them working in a rifle. Are you talking about re-lining the barell for a different caliber?

I haven't seen one, please post details when it surfaces.

I do have a few questions about operation...namely extraction.

Also what size it adapts to, since most Mosin bore sizes are in the 0.310" - 0.312" range, limiting ammunition choices.

Try MCA they should be able to help you. Give them a call they are very friendly and helpful. You should be able to use .32 acp. or 32 Mag. 32Mag or 327 Mag would be the best choice because of the 32 S&W family of cases. 32-20 might also be a choice as well as 762X39.
