    Default AR-15 22lr conversion kits?

Thinking about getting one of the internal 22LR conversion kits for one of my AR's so I can shoot steel within 10 yards at my place. I have never used one of the kit's like CMMG offers before I order one I wanted to get some feedback on them as well as reliable mags that can be used.

I have one, I've put thousands of rounds through it. I'm not going to say that they're flawless, but they're still a good alternative to shooting 5.56 all the time. My AR pistol doesn't like it too much, but my rifle likes it a lot. I'm using the grey CMMG mags, which take a little bit of work to get them to fit properly in the magwell. There's little tabs at the top that need to be sanded a bit till the mag fits smoothly into the magwell.

Note that your AR will become FILTHY from running 22LR.

    Crud city.

I had a Chiappa upper and I swear the first time I used it on my 5.56 lower it got dirtier inside the lower than in two years of shooting 5.56.

I got tired of the laborous task of pulling two pins to swap uppers so I built a lower to make it a dedicated 22AR.

    Much betterer now!

Thanks for the feedback guy's. As far as the dirt I have an issue with redundancy which lead me to build 3 of my AR's the exact same way using all the same parts so I plan to keep one just for the conversion unless shit goes south.

I had a CMMG kit that ran like garbage. Sold it off and got a 15-22. Much happier.

I'd recommend getting a dedicated AR22 upper. As EM noted that 22LR is filthy and a PITA to try to get it cleaned up.

If you build TACCOM is the place to buy parts from. I have a complete CMMG AR22 upper and it works well. I am selling my Black Dog Machine mags, if you go with a CMMG type.
