WED, JULY 6 2016 - CONGRESS GUN CONTROL VOTE THIS WEEK – PLEASE EMAIL & CALL YOUR HOUSE REPRESENTATIVES

    GOA ALERT

    ********** PRE-WRITTEN EMAIL **********

    Subject: Oppose H.R. 5611

    I urge you to oppose H.R. 5611.

Gun Owners of America opposes this legislation, and they are rating both the “rule” and the bill as anti-gun.

There is not one thing in H.R. 5611 that would have stopped the Orlando shooter from engaging in his ISIS-inspired terror attack.

But if the Pulse night club had NOT been a gun-free zone, lives could have been saved -- as evidenced by concealed carriers who successfully protected lives last year at a Youngstown, Ohio bar (see: http://gunowners.me/29uFUMt ) and, more recently, at a bar in South Carolina (see: http://gunowners.me/29iahBf ).

If you really want to help stop these shootings from occurring, then strengthen concealed carry laws (such as Constitutional Carry reciprocity, H.R. 923) and repeal Gun Free Zones.

    Sincerely,

********** FULL GOA ALERT FOLLOWS **********

HOUSE TO VOTE ON GUN CONTROL THIS WEEK

A couple of weeks ago, Democrats made a mockery of the House by sitting on the floor, whining, and, metaphorically, holding their breath until they turned blue.

In response, House Speaker Paul Ryan gave these petulant children exactly what they want: a vote to impose gun control.

The House will be voting this week on anti-gun legislation (H.R. 5611) that is similar to bills that were already voted on in the Senate -- a proposal that would allow Attorney General Loretta Lynch to impose a gun ban against people who have committed no crimes, but nevertheless, are on a government watch list.

Of course, the Orlando shooter was not on a “no fly,” “selectee,” or even a consolidated watch list.

He was exonerated by the FBI. He passed background checks. He bought his guns legally in a gun store. Every single gun control law that had been put in place to stop terrorists like him failed.

But there is one thing that would have stopped him. If the Pulse night club had NOT been a gun-free zone, lives could have been saved -- as evidenced by concealed carriers who successfully protected lives last year at a Youngstown, Ohio bar and, more recently, at a bar in South Carolina.
    http://concealednation.org/2015/06/c...un-inside-bar/
    http://bearingarms.com/bob-o/2016/06...ampaign=buffer

Of course, anti-gun Democrats ignore examples of good people using their guns to stop mass shootings. And, they ignore the fact that the Orlando gunman openly admitted he was killing in support of ISIS.

Not only do they IGNORE the terror connection, radicals like Barack Obama continue to move heaven and earth to import hundreds of embedded terrorists who simply cannot be properly vetted.

Sadly, Obama has been able to enlist help from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell -- and now, House Speaker Paul Ryan -- to make the recent Orlando tragedy “about guns,” rather than about the growing terror threat within our borders.

Obviously, it’s not about guns, but making it so only energizes Hillary’s political purposes going into the election.

Make no mistake about it: none of the gun control proposals that will be voted on this week are constitutional.

And while they are all aimed at stopping GUN PURCHASES -- thus restricting Second Amendment rights -- none of them are aimed at stopping potential terrorists who buy a truckload of fertilizer (as in Oklahoma City) or box cutters (as on 9-11).

Republicans Twisting Arms to Pass Gun Control “Lite”

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is the sponsor of the gun control package that will be voted on this week (H.R. 5611). And, according to press reports, the NRA supports this legislation.

What this means is that most Republicans are going to support this gun control “lite” bill -- even though most Democrats will oppose it because they don’t think it goes far enough.

This means there is a possibility that this anti-gun legislation can be defeated if the truly pro-gun Republicans (who vote NO on all gun control) are joined by the anti-gun Democrats (who will vote against it because they want stricter gun control).

But you can be sure about this: The virulently anti-gun crowd ONLY cares about demonizing guns and your Second Amendment rights.

They don’t care that all the proposals on the table -- including H.R. 5611 -- would allow Loretta Lynch to impose a gun ban against people who have never committed a crime, based on subjective standards.

Remember that the Justice Department has already “found” that gun owners in general pose a high risk of domestic terrorism.
    http://www.gunowners.org/images/pdf/...d_veterans.pdf

Due Process: Only for the Rich

Republicans who support this bill claim there is language that purports to give due process. But the “procedures” which supposedly grant “due process” in this Orwellian legislation are jokes.

We all know, from the Veterans Disarmament Act, that the government can use the full weight of its taxpayer-financed bureaucracy to take away people’s guns -- as has happened to more than 250,000 veterans.

And so when the government goes after your gun rights -- if you can’t come up with tens of thousands of dollars upfront that will be required to defend yourself and you have no taxpayer financed lawyers, unlike most criminal defendants -- you’re going to lose your guns. Period.

Hence, the “due process” that McCarthy’s bill purports to give is only for the wealthy, for those who can afford an “O.J.” defense.

Not only that, under judicial precedent, Attorney General Lynch could deem all of the information relevant to the case as classified, meaning that your lawsuit would be like a fighting with a blindfold, and most of the important meetings would be in camera between the judge and the Justice Department.

So you’ll not only be going up against the immense wealth of the U.S. government, you’ll be fighting blindfolded as well.

This is not a pro-Second Amendment bill, and the passage of this legislation -- or any gun control -- will allow the anti-gun Bloomberg crowd to “put points on the board.”

This is true even if insatiable Democrats pretend it is not enough.

Any gun control will concede Obama’s argument that “guns are the problem.” And it will position the anti-gun Left for its next set of gun control demands.

So please urge your Representative to vote against ANY legislation containing ANY gun ban that comes to the floor this week.

And tell your Representative to support strengthening concealed carry reciprocity laws instead.

Hello and welcome to the forum.
Regarding your comment about doing "something".
This is my opinion, I don't speak for the forum.

Rallies are difficult to organize since unlike the anti-gun crowd, most activist gun owners have jobs and limited time.
Bloomberg actually pays people to show up at his "rallies" (and to call lawmakers), and the liberal anti-gun activists/protesters are mostly students, soccer moms and unemployed welfare recipients.
Also the liberal major media deliberately ignores or minimizes pro-gun rallies, while at the same time exaggerates anti-gun rallies.

As an example, the liberal Democrat anti-gun rally on the Congressional steps yesterday was populated by Democrat representatives, paid Bloomgerg orange shirt soccer moms, the press, and about 25 people standing in the crowd (probably Democrat staff members).
    No one else showed up.
Despite this (very common) failure of an anti-gun rally, the liberal "main stream" media continue to give the "event" large media coverage as though it was a massive success.

There is a pro-gun rally in Harrisburg once a year organized by gun rights activists that populate this forum and others.
The annual pro-gun rally in Harrisburg is routinely ignored by the liberal major media.
The rally is still successful because it is combined with an organized effort to visit and talk to all of the State lawmakers in Harrisburg.

To join the fight to protect and preserve your civil right to own a firearm I would recommend the following.

Join the GOA and get on their mailing list https://gunowners.org.

Join a local chapter of any gun rights group in your area, and if you can, volunteer your time for gun rights efforts (NRA, GOA, gun shops, ranges, forums can help you find local gun rights groups).

Find the contact information of your Federal, State and Local government representatives http://cqrcengage.com/gunowners/home (Find Your Reps Search Box).
When alerted to a current gun rights issue make sure to EMAIL AND CALL your government representatives to voice your pro-gun opinion.
If you can, mail a written letter version of your email to your government representatives.
ALWAYS remain professional and POLITE when talking about protecting your civil right to own a firearm, especially when talking to your government representatives (regardless of their position or demeanor).

Contacted them--- can we simply tell our Politicians unless they get get 3/4's of the states and 2/3 of Congress to remove the 2A all laws against it should be null and void and future bills unlawful. It's an inalienable right and skirting these God given rights with unconstitutional laws is illegal. if they can't get this done through the proper channels and instructions then too bad...all 2A laws are null and void on the Federal level!

    .

the bill has been tabled because many repubs said they will sabotage the bill because of lack of due process provisions

Disagreements over the importance of “due process” among House Republicans has forced GOP leaders to indefinitely table any vote on an “anti-terrorism package” in response to the Orlando terrorist attack.

Unconcerned with the Constitution, House Democrats have been pushing Speaker Paul Ryan to vote on their gun control measures – even staging more political stunts on the floor, like reading the names of victims of gun violence.

At issue are proposals to restrict Second Amendment rights to “suspected” terrorists and others on one of many “watch lists” compiled by the Executive branch. Politico is reporting:

“We aren’t trying to rush anything — it’s most important to get it right, so we are continuing to work with members toward that end,” said a senior House GOP aide, echoing comments Ryan made earlier at a press conference Thursday.

“We want to get this terrorism legislation right,” Ryan said.

“Lots of our members when we posted the bill have given us many suggestions.

So we’re trying to get this legislation right. We’re trying to reflect the consensus of our conference so that we can bring a bill to the floor that deals with this violence, that deals with terrorism, that deals with these issues. And we’re not going to rush it. We’re going to get it right.”

Republicans like Sen. John Cornyn and Rep. Kevin McCarthy have brought forth proposals that would require the Justice Department to present “probable cause” in court before blocking a gun purchase. Democrats blasted the idea, saying it’s nothing more than a “toothless NRA bill that will do nothing to keep our communities safe.”

But hard-line GOP conservatives came out against the leadership bill amid concerns about due process rights.

The House Freedom Caucus on Wednesday said it would vote as a bloc against the proposal unless it’s amended.

That forced leadership to postpone consideration of the bill, which was slated to hit the floor this week. Ryan and McCarthy hoped a conference meeting would assuage members, but they still don’t appear to have the votes needed, sources say.

Democrats have been demanding votes on two proposals. One would bar anyone on the federal “No fly” list from being allowed to buy a gun; the other would expand federal background checks to all gun sales. Both measures have been defeated in the Senate, making a House vote little more than a symbolic gesture.

    Thanks for the update.
I've been watching the House live feed most of the day, including the Democrats disgraceful protest on the House floor.

I am a member of NRA, GAO and FPC. I get the emails, Ive been emailing and calling govt reps. I haven't use snail mail but I suppose I could. Myself along with others feel that there is more that we can do, and the gun owners across the nation need to have one voice. I understand that we all have our obligations, and maybe I'm just ignorant, but I thought getting together on a Saturday afternoon in sync with CA and other states across the nation would be away to show everyone that we are not going to take this BS sitting down. Doesn't need to involve speaking with representatives or this big organized event. Just to say hey, we're here, we're united, we see whats going on and its not right.

I know how the media is. I know the agenda. Regardless if they covered it or not, we would still be standing there together and they would know it. If we got a couple of strong voices on youtube (which is where this idea originated), full30 and some of the other pro-gun outlets to get in it could be a success however it seems to be falling on deaf ears. I will continue to bird-dog it and do what I can.

Try starting a thread in the Pennsylvania section (this is National).
    Be specific in the title.
Post the details and ask if anyone wants to attend.
You may also want to message one of the moderators and see if they can help you get the word out.
I think its a good idea.
    Best of luck with it.
