Re: Targets.....
Do you have a place where you can safely shoot at "stuff:?
I have some computer equipment, tin cans and what not.==============
“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquillity of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, — go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!”

Re: Targets.....
Anything!! I have a few places where I shoot where there is everything from TVs and washing machines to junked cars (mostly illegal dumps). Normally there is no need to bring targets because there is so many of them already there. It is getting tougher to gain access to those areas so I fear their end is near.

Cars make great targets, if you have the appropriate area. Reactive targets (tannerite) are a lot of fun. We've done stuffed animals with tannerite inside them.

On a smaller scale, bowling pins are a great target. They move when you hit them, they can take mulitple hits, the plastic cover usually stays together, so there's not much mess to clean up. if the wood blows apart, that's not much of a range hazard.
swinging steel targets are also good.

Re: Targets.....
I have memberships to more than one place to shoot, they all say "paper targets only". One of them is very strict about that, the others will permit some other targets as long as everyone is mindful of safety and cleans up any mess they make.
(Indoor ranges, for obvious reasons must be paper only).
Water filled steel cans with tight fitting lids are fun. (6mm & 6.5 mm hollow points just make holes in the front and back, no big deal, but spitzers and other soft points will tear them up pretty impressively). You'd be surprised at what a 22 Hornet, 222 or 223 will do to them at 100 yards with a bullet designed for rapid expansion. One pound gun powder cans work well, so do one gallon cans such as acetone and paint thinner containers, because when they're empty they're clean enough to not be messy or leave "hazardous" residue. I never use cans that had any kind of oil, like linseed or other wood finishes. I also make sure to clean up after myself, I don't want to lose the privelage of being able to play a little bit. It's fun to shoot charcoal briquets too. They aren't too expensive, they make a nice little black 'puff' when you hit them and you shouln't have to worry about cleanup in most places. Ballons are fun, but require a cleanup effort. If you're shooting with kids or someone new to the sport, these "fun" targets are a good way to get and keep them interested.
