    Default Cabelas? Seriously?

I'll cut right to the chase, Cabela's has the Remington 870 express super magnum on sale for 349 and there's a $50 rebate. I went to the counter, took my number, they called it I told the guy I wanted one and I'm going to let my son use it. Yeah, don't know why I was so open with him but it's the truth. Anyways he wouldn't sell it to me because he says that my son needs to be 18 and he needs to buy it. Says it's all about Orlando and they need to be careful who they're selling guns too. I told him I'm buying the gun and it's my possession and I'll let him use it. Anyways I wasn't going to get into a pissing match with him and left

He said I would have to put it on layaway and then my son would have to pick it up and pay for it. Honestly I've never had a bad experience at Cabela's but this completely soured me.

I know, that's pretty much what they're saying to me They're telling me if I'm buying it so my son can shoot it he needs to be 18 and he needs to come in and he needs to buy it himself He even went to his manager. I wouldn't be so pissed but it's such a great price it'll end up being $299

I didn't say it was for my son, I said it was for my son to shoot with me. Then I said OK well it's for me and he said no Yorty told me your son was going to shoot it therefore I can't sell it to you. And then he went into the whole thing while they have to be careful because of Orlando and that kind of stuff. What the hell does Orlando have to do with me buying a shotgun?

This might sour some people's opinion of Cabela's, but FFLs have to protect themselves. If you're still interested in doing business with Cabela's after this experience, go back and try again. Chances very good you'll get a different salesman, so don't be so chatty. Just make your purchase and be on your way.

Ask them to show you a PA/FED statute that says you have to be a certain age to shoot with your parent(s).

They are just being overly cautious. I have never bought a firearm there because I have run into a few asshat clerks, plus their prices are usually way to high.

Yeah, understood. Usually I keep quiet. I'll go back tomorrow. It's a great price for a great gun. I still don't know how this would be illegal in any way. It's a long gun and I live in PA. I should not even have to have this conversation. Freaking tool, considering the asshats he sells to everyday....well, I guess I'm one of those asshats now ha ha!

Cabela's must have suddenly forgotten 12 year olds can legally hunt but can't buy their own rifle/shotgun. If they aren't BORROWING if from dad where does Cabela's think junior hunters magically get their guns? I have no idea how old your son is but you understand the point.

You caved too easily. I would have insisted on talking to a manager, and the manager's manager if needed. I'd really like to hear where/how they think this makes sense.

Oh... and yeah, you shared a bit too much info.

Nah, what good would that do me? He spoke with his manager and he said no-go. Not worth arguing over. He's just being a dork and I am his target.

His manager will say you can't buy this gun for someone else, I will say it's for me, he will say that your son is going to shoot it, I'll say yes and what is the issue, and then he will say that legally my son has to buy it, then I will just turn red in the face and leave because arguing over a gun purchase at Cabelas is worthless.
