Default NRA Alert: Support for PA Sen bill 1330, Firearm Preemption

    From the NRA-ILA:

On the heels of yesterday’s Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruling that struck down ACT 192 – Firearm Preemption Legislation - for violation of the “single subject” rule for legislative process, Senator Rich Alloway (R-33) has re-introduced legislation to replace the intent of the original measure. Senate Bill 1330, if again enacted into law, would strengthen Pennsylvania’s firearms preemption law to further ensure firearm and ammunition laws are consistent throughout the state.

Title 18 Pa.C.S., Section 6120 of Pennsylvania law specifically states that "No county, municipality or township may in any manner regulate the lawful ownership, possession, transfer or transportation of firearms, ammunition or ammunition components when carried or transported for purposes not prohibited by the laws of this Commonwealth."

State firearms preemption was enacted by the state legislature to avoid the possibility of 2,639 separate firearm laws across the Commonwealth; however, over recent years, numerous local governments have enacted gun control ordinances in violation of the current state firearms preemption law.

A myriad of local firearm laws makes compliance very difficult and nearly impossible for responsible gun owners. This creates a situation where gun owners and sportsmen have difficulty even knowing about certain laws, much less understanding them. SB 1330 will correct the problem by preventing localities from imposing ordinances more restrictive than laws passed by the Pennsylvania Legislature.

Sent---but my Rep is Steve Santersiero. Ironically, I sent an email earlier this AM in opposition to his other bill. He's such a putz!

When I got the alert from NRA I went to my state senator's page and told him I was in favor of SB1330.

I don't see too many postings here advocating this pro 2nd amendment law. Am I wrong or is there a general apathy among gun owners - who post here - towards the 2nd amendment?

If this doesn't stir something up nothing will.

    UPDATE:
And then I searched "preemption"... .

Thank you. I followed up. I think our legislators need to keep pushing this. Sure, Wolf will likely veto it -- but at least force his hand. Keep bringing it back. At some point even the Democrat Pennsylvania Supreme Court will run out of reasons for declaring it unconstitutional.
