Re: Supreme Court to act on gun ownership cases
I believe that SCOTUS will overturn both decisions, assuming that the pro 2A attorneys make the compelling argument that is needed to demonstrate to the court that the DV case and the AW ban are unwarranted.
While DV is horrid the reality is that it rarely ends up in homicide. When it does how often is a gun used? From what I have read the is most often to be killed by means other than a gun.
Perpetrators of DV are among the many who have some sort of mental illness. Restricting gun purchases to the mentally ill is reasonable. Selecting one type of mental illness like DV for special treatment under the law fails the "equal treatment" prescribed in the Constitution.
Now for the assault weapon ban, the case has to be made that an assault weapon is any weapon used in an assault not just a military style long gun.
The attorneys need to present statistical data showing how many assault rifles are owned by citizens and contrast that with data that shows how many assault rifles are actually used to
commit violent crimes. That makes the point that assault rifles in the hands of responsible owners are not the problem, and that the problem is the rare purchaser who buys one to kill people. To punish thousands for the crimes of a handful of perps ignores the "equal protection" provision of the Constitution.

Re: Supreme Court to act on gun ownership cases
Just remember this discussion in November. Next POTUS will nominate to seat 2-4 SCOTUS justices. Think young liberal antigunners like Kagan and Sotomayor for the next 20-30 years. We still have clinton era appointee appellate justices passing down idiotic and anti constitutional decisions all the time. Look at Maryland.
