Retired Gen. David Petraeus announced Friday he’s partnering with former astronaut Mark Kelly to create a gun control group for veterans.

Petraeus’ past is still marked by his history of leaking classified information to his biographer-turned-mistress, though this new effort might be seen as an attempt to rehabilitate his reputation among vets. The idea behind the group is to curb rampant veteran suicide rates. Department of Veterans Affairs data indicates that 22 veterans commit suicide every single day, and about two-thirds of those deaths take place by firearm, The Hill reports.

Petraeus’ new group is called the Veterans Coalition for Common Sense, and it’s attracting support from other former military leaders, namely former CIA Director Michael Hayden and retired Adm. Thad Allen. There are 23 veterans in total on the advisory committee. The goal of the group is to push legislation that mandates stronger background checks for gun purchases, though Mark Prentice, communications director for Americans for Responsible Solutions, affirmed the importance of the Second Amendment.

To say Petraeus has a checkered past is an understatement. If he is on a side in the gun issue, I am glad he is not on ours. His gun control group will be funded by the leftists and that is how it and others will survive, but nonetheless, will have little effect on the issue at hand. I would venture to say that Petraeus will move on in a matter of time and take up another cause that he will fail in as well.

If you take away the guns, I am sure that the vets committing suicide will find another way to do so. England's suicide rates did not drop when they went full retard on their gun rights back in the day. More people just overdose or hang themselves. With all the pills that big pharma pushes on vets with PTSD, overdosing will become the new method of choice. Anyways, you shouldn't expect integrity from someone who doesn't even have enough of a moral compass to get a divorce or see his commitment to the end. BTW, when you have leftists in the military, you know your country is soooo fucked.
