Default New 1911--Higher end, something different from the rest

Thanks to everyone who participated in my last thread about looking for a higher end 1911. In the end, I went with the new production Ithaca. I read Ithaca's information, and what you get for the price is pretty darn good. All forged, tool steel, machined parts. No cast/mim. Everything hand fit. Match barrel. Carbon steel frame and slide. This Ithaca was well under the $2,000 price point. Nice front strap checkering, everything I need, nothing I don't need. The slide to frame fit is tight, but not insane. Barrel and bushing are rock solid lock up.

The only little gripe: the finish is a black oxide. I'd rather it be something a little more durable and rust resistant since I'll be carrying this, but I figure if it gets messed up I can always have it refinished in the future.

I'm looking forward to shooting it.

Anyone else have one of these? I like that it's something different, but carries a legendary name in the 1911 tradition.

As a carry gun? You might want to consider changing the sights. A set of fixed, tritium sights might serve better for the purpose of carry, esp. if you're often out and about after dark.

Good luck with it! I hope you get many years of service and enjoyment from it!

I really like the Ithaca but I can't justify it.
Oh and congrats man. I was kinda hoping you'd get the Ithaca

Nice looking pistol for sure way to big for my taste for every day carry but I am a sissy. Have you decided if your going to sell your TRP to fund this?

I traded it in at the time of purchase at my LGS. I got a pretty good value since the TRP was in great shape.

Big guns get cumbersome--but I open carry about 90 percent of the time. The other 10 percent, I can conceal it just fine under a t-shirt or polo shirt.

1911's are not cumbersome, and are easily carried in a good leather holster.

Yes. Nothing wrong with the TRP. It's really the best production 1911 one can by. I decided I wanted a semi-custom quality 1911 with all forged/machined internals and hand-fit slide/frame. It would be something I'd keep, carry, and possibility be an heirloom type thing.

I have one of the Upper Sandusky OH made Ithaca 37s, and it is my favorite shotgun. Super smooth to load, shoot, and pump, and it seems to be the only one I can hit anything with.

I was considering one of their 1911s, but I really wish it came in a glossy blued finish. It seems like every 1911 nowadays is some sort of matte gray finish. I think that's the main reason why I planning on going with Colt.
