    Default Best Electronic Hearing Protection?

I went and purchased a cheap pair of electronic headphones. WOW, what a difference they make in how much easier it is to hear when wearing muffs. If you have never used a pair. They are a great purchase in my opinion.

I heard some guys saying that "Some Brand" was really good (missed the brand they were talking about). They said the sound was super clear and very easy to understand. Is there really that big of a difference in cheap muffs sound and expensive muffs sound?

My headphones sweat like crazy around my ears. Are there any out there that would solve this problem?

When shooting a rifle or shotgun. Muffs aren't the best. To big and get in the way. Are there any that you can use while shooting a rifle without being in the way?

Which brands have you all used? And what are the pros and cons of the ones you are using or have used?

I am using the Green Ones that you get on sale at Midway for $19. I know they aren't the best. But I'm impressed for the price. Are the more expensive muffs that are out there, really worth the big bucks they are asking for them?

Which ones, if any, do you recommend?

One of the brands I've seen mentioned in a lot of magazines and forums is Peltor:

They're not cheap, but they're supposedly good headsets. I don't have and firsthand experience with them, so I won't endorse or criticize. Just throwing it out there for reference.

I have a pair of Peltors. I don't know the model, but they were about $80, I think, and the rating is 22 or 23 dB reduction. They're pretty good, but heavy (3 AAA batteries on each side), and they do get in the way when shooting trap. I can work around them on the rifle bench, and they're no problem with pistols. They work very well indoors, and the compression is very fast. I think that's the compromise with the less-expensive models: the speed at which the noise reduction occurs. It's similar to what you get with welding helmets; if it's too slow, you're still taking damage.

I saw these things called sweatguards or something like that. The ad was in the IDPA Tactical Journal. They go on over the vinyl muff part. Sorry I am not more helpful, I do not have the Journal here in my Office.

anyone know of any good electronic ones that actually go in your ears (as opposed to muffs)?

my ideal ear protection would be something that goes in your ears and amplifies quiet sounds while muffling loud sounds. (like the sordin's tony posted, but that actually go in your ears.)

i imagine something like that prolly exists...prolly costs a buttload of money, though, too.
