Re: Super Secret Facility in Altoona.
I was in that one, and it just wasn't the same as the one in Altoona. It seemed more like a regular hardware store than a surplus store. If I recall, it didn't have the selection of hardware by the pound that the Altoona store has/had as well. Of course, I haven't been to the one in Altoona for probably 15 years or so now. Not much reason for me to go up there since Pappy passed away.

Re: Super Secret Facility in Altoona.
As of two weeks ago, there is still ample selections of nuts and bolts by the pound. All sorts of other odds and ends
need a bunch of M16A1 200m zeroing targets?
a bunch of .99 t-shirts?
perhaps 2" hemp rope by the 4' spool?

Re: Super Secret Facility in Altoona.
mid to late '90's I believe was when it closed as a naval reserve center. certainly a drill center all through the '80's.... there was a yeoman at the time active duty there , he retired and went to work for the feds when it re-opened as home and security.he made out like a bandit I think. Dont recall his name , nice guy though. The placed closed as a drill center shortly after they did away with mandatory drills for reservists. The place cleared out after that and they started to send the reservists who were left elsewhere.
Had a tour in there as a home land security building before someone decided that was a bad idea.
at the time , they used Hollidaysburg sportsman for a lot of testing.

Re: Super Secret Facility in Altoona.
I bought some of them targets. years and years ago I talked to the owner about his lack of surplus military stuff "as compared to when I was a kid"
he told me , they had a place in maryland and they sent the bulk of the military stuff there as it sold better than up here.
