The beginnings of my Hunting Rifle
Well, some of my accessories arrived today. Scope covers, steel weaver bases, and the competition plus sling from brownells. This sling may quite possibly be the most complicated and frustrating thing I have ever tried to assemble. I still dont know if I have it right! Keeper this, hook that, feed end this, I'm so confused!
I like the sling. It seems very sturdy and strong, but this new leather is TOUGH. I may need to work it a bit to soften it up.
If anyone can tell by the photos if I've set the sling up incorrectly, please tell me.

I figured this might help you out LC, and any others interested in using a sling properly. This is how to the service sling together, and how to use it. Hope that it helps.

Re: The beginnings of my Hunting Rifle
Update! New toys came today!
This scope is almost too pretty to put those old butler creek flip caps on it. I wish I could find some screw in type like Leupold offers.

There are about 4 different (basic) ways to configure that type of sling. Then there are at least 4 (basic) ways to use that type of sling. You didn't mention your intended use for it. Some people would use it just to carry their rifle through the woods, others would use it to it's full extent (which involves a little training) Typically I don't know of many PA hunters deploying a sling the "proper way" as in Tomcat088 's link, they typically go the bi-pod route instead.

Very cool LC. I'm almost in the same boat as you just backwards. I have a new rifle but no scope, case, or accessories of any kind . The thought crossed my mind of hunting for the first time this year but I think i'll leave that for next. Congrats on your soon to be new rifle!

Re: The beginnings of my Hunting Rifle
Was browsing around and found another sling link that might help you out as well. This one goes through proper sling adjustment and use in the prone position. I suppose it can't hurt, lol. http://www.fulton-armory.com/slinguse.htm
