There are a couple local matches I like to attend but I was thinking 9mm would be better. I figured less recoil for faster follow up shots but what advantage does .40 have for matches?

I own 2 glocks in 9mm so I have extra ammo and I love the fact that it's around $0.22 per round. The .40 is a little more expensive per round but the pistol is cheaper.

    what do you guys think?
When the ammo shortage hit 40 was last on the shelf. 9 was first to go by by. 40 came back quicker. $111 will buy reloading dies and powder

    Either 9mm or 40 works
    Heck, I have 4 x 9mm! Beretta 92FS, Glock 26, Walther P-38, and just got a Browning Hi-Power!

I'd get a 9MM, and the all steel 75B or SP-01. Nothing wrong with the P-09 though.

I felt a used steel cz at my local shop and I found the little ledge on the beaver tail a little uncomfortable in my hand but the polymer is solid so I'm assuming I'll prefer the rear of the p-09.

    9mm
    1. You already have pistols in that caliber, so you're not going to be torn as to which caliber to buy when you have $$.
    2. It's still more popular than 40 and can be found EVERYWHERE
    3. True, it disappears quickly whenever some federal douche canoe starts calling for gun control, but refer to #1.
    4. Cheaper per round

    If you reload
    • Cheaper to reload (lighter weight bullet = lower cost per bullet, less powder per round)
    • You don't risk accidentally mixing 9mm brass with 40 brass in your tumbler.
(If you don't know - 9mm brass gets jammed with tumbling media inside the 40 brass and by the time you get them separated, both are mangled to hell and not worth keeping. The same thing happens with mixing 40 and 45 brass in the tumbler. 9mm and 45 too, but the 2 diameters are far enough apart that it is not nearly as bad.)

My $5.029 worth of input ($0.02 + state taxes and the $5 government mandated internet advice tax).

I think I've decided to get the 9mm first thing in the morning.

You're more than welcome to cross the big scary border to fondle mine!

If you do get the P-09, you won't be disappointed. I've got one in FDE and actually prefer it to my SP-01. Very reliable and stoopid accurate.

I'm always going to with 9mm as my top recommended caliber but if you want something in another caliber 40 or 45. I'd probably go with 40 over 45 because I think the best gun to buy in 45 is the 1911 as long as it's not your "go to" handgun.
If you wanted a 45 caliber go to handgun I would go with something that holds at least 10 rounds then.
