Default Marlin. Mod 60 - loose mag tube

I have an older model 60 with a loose mag tube. It slides around in the dove tail. I tried some blue locktite because it's what I had but it does not hold too well. I suppose I can try a stronger adhesive or some JB Weld but before I go the "trial and error, mostly error" route, I figued I would tap the vast knowledge of PAFOA.

Anyone here fix a similar problem? What has worked for you?

Two ways that would work first as you mentioned an epoxy/JB weld but you would need to disassemble it and clean up and scuff up both halve of the dovetail , apply a little JB and reassemble and wipe off any excess that shows . The other way is to lightly peen or stake it so it's a tighter fit in the slot do both sides and if needed touch up with cold blue .

I tried shimming it with a piece of aluminum cut from can but it did not hold up too well. Still a little loose. I tried folding it over but then it was too thick.

If you have that much clearance in there (alum. can =.006") then you should epoxy it. As I mentioned scuff the metal up some clean it good and apply epoxy of your choice

I agree, try epoxy. I would also try peening the touching faces of the two parts with a sharp punch, the undulations formed will help 'lock' the epoxy in the gap between the two.

What I think I am going to do is Epoxy the aluminum shim to the dove tail on the mag tube. That additional thickness from the epoxy might be enough to wedge it in tight enough. If it's too much I can sand it down a bit. I will also try to peen it with a punch.

    Good advice. T hanks
