Default Conceal in plain sight. Would you buy this pistol?

If the gun is disguised to look like something else, would OWB carry be considered concealed?

    Ideal Conceal Covered in Controversy

We all want to carry to protect ourselves, but matching a comfortable holster to our favorite firearm can sometimes be an exercise in futility. There is one company, however, that believes to have solved the riddle of convenience and comfort.

Ideal Conceal is a company based out of Monticello, MN that has a prototype firearm disguised as an everyday cellphone. By simply hinging the mock cellphone it opens up into a 2-shot derringer chambered in .380 ACP. It uses a striker-fire design so there is no hammer that could possibly get snagged. It also has a built in clip so no extra holster or accessories are required to carry it. This derringer doesn’t have any iron sights to speak of, but it does have a laser built into the frame.

Since this is a prototype firearm with its patents pending no one outside of the company has touched one yet. According to Ideal Conceal’s Facebook page the derringer is supposed to be available “mid 2016.” Already social media is buzzing with positive and negative feedback on this prospective firearm.

The two dominant conversations surrounding Ideal Conceal are pretty polar opposite: glowingly optimistic or severely pessimistic. Some people view Ideal Conceal for its curb appeal of convenient to deploy, easy to conceal, and its level of comfort or basically not requiring a holster. The other mindset is that Ideal Conceal creates a horrifying new concern for law enforcement. All cellphones could now be possible weapons used against our men and women in blue. As if their jobs aren’t difficult enough in the heat of the moment they must now decipher and identify if a small object is a possible threat or just another Samsung cellphone.

Ideal Conceal has been receiving a considerable amount of flack for their company’s lone firearm. It is hard to judge something when no one has seen a working model yet; only 3D images. Ideal Conceal’s response to much of the negative press has been: “People always fear that which they don’t understand…”

We hope to see some working models sooner than later so we can form our own educated opinion because Ideal Conceal has definitely piqued our interest.

Considering it would look weird to have 2 phones on me no. If I need deep carry I'll use my nano or purchase a .380.

    Nope.

The Glock 43 is pocketable enough that nobody knows I've got one, just fine for deep concealment.

I'm going with no. It may have it's place, but not for me... I have a NAA .22 with the folding pistol grip - I thought it was really cool ! and it too, may have a place in very specific circumstance, but not an every day carry. For deep concealment, my Kel-Tecs are more readily available and reliable. For EDC, I have a permit, if it prints a little I don't particularly care. Too hard to bring in to play quickly if needed for EDC.

I'm thinking this would have to be a AOW.

    ^^^^^THIS^^^^^^^

Just like the mysterious Taurus 28 gauge revolver that popped up at the Shot Show for one day a few years back. One look from the Feds, instant SBS, and then blammo, pulled from display.
