I refuse to accept retainers for people who would like to have a lawyer on retainer "just in case", because the odds are against them (a) randomly having need of a good firearms lawyer, (b) soon, and (c) in a particular geographic area. Odds are that they will go through life without shooting anyone, but if they do, it could be anywhere. It's "criminal's choice" on when and where you are attacked.

Hire a lawyer when you need one. But look around now, while you have the time, and write down the contact info for a lawyer that you have reason to trust, and put that someplace where your family can find it. And a bail bondsman, too. And stash some ready cash where you can get it at 2 AM.
