I refuse to accept retainers for people who would like to have a lawyer on retainer "just in case", because the odds are against them (a) randomly having need of a good firearms lawyer, (b) soon, and (c) in a particular geographic area. Odds are that they will go through life without shooting anyone, but if they do, it could be anywhere. It's "criminal's choice" on when and where you are attacked.

Hire a lawyer when you need one. But look around now, while you have the time, and write down the contact info for a lawyer that you have reason to trust, and put that someplace where your family can find it. And a bail bondsman, too. And stash some ready cash where you can get it at 2 AM.

I may manage the gun shop, but I'm also an attorney who practices firearms law. Happy to give you my info if you're interested.

I keep a business card in my wallet, magnet on the fridge and number in my cell phone.

We have had the same attorney in our family now for 4 generations. But If the popo picks me up for anything gun related, I will not say a word till Gunlawyer is sitting next to me.

Haha. No, probably 80. He is at the top of the letterhead and he probably has more billable hours than the young whipper snappers.

My Grandfather first used him probably just out of law school, my dad uses him (he's 86), I use him (I'm 55), and my son uses him (he's 29). His son works at the firm and he is my age.
