If you've got a 1911 in your range bag, you can leave the bushing wrench at home. Just remember to bring a Jefferson nickel (preferably with Monticello on the reverse side) in your pocket. It depresses the recoil spring plug just fine.

The real advantage is that it's not "new & improved" and you probably already have a couple!

I do not carry any special tools other than the AR front sight tool. Allen wrench keys, small screwdrivers, pliers etc come from my existing tool box I don't want to pay for a tactical titanium screwdriver when I can use a cheapo one I already have.

My range bag also usually holds bore snakes for what ever I am shooting, a brass squib rod, and a dental pick for any stuck cases.

    Amen brother!

I got three 12" long brass squib rods (naval gun bronze) from here: http://www.onlinemetals.com/merchant...p=2&top_cat=79 for something around $15 for all three. The .3125" is for 9's, the .375" is for 40's, and the .4375 is for 45's. I've only needed them once for me and a couple of times for other range members, but I'm glad I have 'em...

They're not "new & improved" either. They just work when you need them to work....

Just drop one in after another until you get the needed length.

Yes I do, but they're either wooden or metal ramrods (black powder) with a flat bullet seater the size of the appropriate caliber. I've only used those a couple of times - the first while helping someone on the range knock out a .45-70 from his Gatling that very mysteriously didn't have any powder behind the bullet and then while developing some .30 cal sub-sonic loads where I forgot to start at the higher powder charge until I worked my way down to a load where the "crack" was eliminated.

    Lesson learned....

I normally have a small tool box with assorted allen wrenches, screw drivers, brass rods, etc with me. Not so much for myself, but to assist others should they need it.
    George,
So many guns, so little money.
