Re: A Primer on Firearm Auctions
"Free" income tax refund money drives up prices this time of the year.
This is the time of the year to sell, the first couple weeks of December when people need gift money is a good time to buy and around Independence day when people need vacation money is a close second.

Re: A Primer on Firearm Auctions
Ive been to a few auctions up here and a few in the south. Savo auctioneers had a couple of really good ones around 2012 time frame. I saw a 1st Generation Colt SAA sell for $800. I have seen $5000 shotguns go for 800-900. On the other hand, I have seen glock gen 3s go for north of $550 and a 10/22 in standard configuration go for $350.
You gave some great advice, and I appreciate the write up. I like to take the auction catalog and do my research, and then write my estimate of what the gun should sell for. If you want something, dont wait for the starting bid to get too low before you raise your hand. The only thing bidding wars do is help the auctioneer and the consigner. Every item I have wanted I have won by simply putting my hand in the air and not taking it down until i hear "Sold!" Confidence goes a long way in an auction setting, just be careful not to get burned. I like to sit up front and center for this very reason.

TL;DR Can someone post cliff notes?
Rules are written in the stone,
Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.

Those are the Cliff Notes! Hey I worked all day and night during last week's polar vortex just to keep the post under the limit of 20,000 characters. Sheesh!!!!
Better study up, for the "Final Exam"(which counts for 50% of your grade) is gonna include questions that never made it to the Cliff Notes....- bamboomaster

Nice write up and well worth the read. I've yet to get a deal at an auction. Too many people know what things are worth.

Re: A Primer on Firearm Auctions
There's an auction going off here: http://gunrunnerauctions.com/ that I usually watch. It'll take the next 7-8 days for everything to be sold, but meanwhile, it's like an 8th grader reading the Sears catalogue.
But there are some there that I've put on my list of "Favorites" just to see where they are valued. If it looks like they'll be sold for under fair market value, I'm on it!- bamboomaster
