Turning & Threading chopped mosin - SE PA
Anyone know of a smith that can thread a 16.5" barreled mosin for 5/8-24? I have spoken to and dealt with several in the SE PA but no one has the proper fixturing to do this. Thanks

Have you tried Donely's in Quakertown?
Turning and threading a barrel should be some pretty standard smith work.

Re: Turning & Threading chopped mosin - SE PA
I haven't tried them, will call... the issue is that the barrel is too short now to fixture through the lathe tooling, the barrel end OD needs to be turned-down on a lathe to get the 5/8-24 thread on there, it needs to be done a lathe to ensure concentricity to the barrel/ muzzle ID. Most smiths have larger lathes and a 16.5" is too short to fixture in there and turn it down, so I think I need someone with a specialty or smaller lathe body.
