    Default Best public range

Hello all. I just purchased my public range permit. I would like to know the best/nicest ranges in NEPA. I live very close to route 6 range, but I don't mind traveling for a nice one. In the past I have been very reluctant to use the state ranges because I have heard they are not that great and get frequented by citidiots and other morons. Any tips hints or secrets would also be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm partial to the Archbald range. Never had an issue with morons (lucky, maybe?), good pistol and rifle ranges. Haven't used it for clays however.
But be warned...it is always windy.

I go to Route 6 quite a bit. I go during the weekdays in the morning. Weekends are packed with all sorts of mongos doing reckless crap. I think the Lackawanna range has a 200 yard setup and it is about 50 minutes away from my house in Dingmans Ferry so I might be checking that one out soon. I will let you know how it is.

look at the range in Dyberry, its nice and quiet there. you can back your car right up to the pistol range. If you search my user name and look for a post from years ago "Group shoot" I posted directions there.

I agree. The SGL 159 range in Dyberry is typically not very crowded, and most times I've been there I rarely saw anyone; two or three times I've had the range entirely to myself. It also helps that this range is a hop, skip, and a jump from my place. The Route 6 range at SGL 183 isn't bad, but I avoid it on weekends unless I can get there very early, as the yahoos tend to pack in there as MovingtoAmerica mentioned.

The SGL 300 range in Archibald is another good place to go. I've never seen the place full, and it's nice to be able to shoot out to 200 yards. It's a much easier trip than the SGL 141 range in Nusquehoning, although it's worth the drive once in a while to be able to shoot out to 300 yards; I haven't been there in over five years so I don't know how it is nowadays.

Thanks for the info. Does 159 have a spot for a clay thrower?

I don't recall seeing a trap/skeet area there. The PGC website should have more info on whether clay shooting is allowed there.
