First time in 35 years...1911-less
After serving with, shooting and carrying one for 35 years, I no longer own a 1911 handgun. Sold my Colt Government Model Friday. Time to enter the 21st century, My new FN FNX 45 (Standard not Tactical) arrives Wednesday.
And I freely admit , there was a time in my life I'd NEVER own a plastic handgun, now I have two ( H&K USP Compact .40 )
Flame Suit On, I'm sure to get some verbal lashing for this

I started out with a Combat Commander in .45 - switched to Glock 9mm - now I've come full circle (still have that gen2 Glock and a 26) back to a Kimber custom II stainless - no harm or flames for going with something you like !

The only slightly flamey thing I can think of is why did you sell your 1911? Did you really need the lousy $300 you got in trade?

You will be back. They always come back. Tupperware belongs in the fridge not on the rage. Good luck with the new gun. Happy shooting.
I always stressed to my son"one shot one kill that was all that is needed". When He came home from Marine Corp Boot camp He was telling me about the Marines stressing "ONE SHOT ONE KILL" He looks at me and the light bulb went on Dad was now a whole lot smarter than he was 13 weeks ago.

Re: First time in 35 years...1911-less
Should have kept one just to pass down as an heirloom. I bought an 1911 with the intention of it being an heirloom.

I've got the FXN45T. Fantastic gun. Great choice. That being said, I still love my 1911 too. Nothing wrong with polygamy in the world of firearms!

Re: First time in 35 years...1911-less
I pondered that for some time, but I have many other money sponging hobbies that burn my discretionary cash with ease. And I'm at the age where I can certainly pare things down a bit, One handgun in each major caliber is all I need. besides I sold the Gov Mod for $750 and ordered the FN for $747.25 with tax and PICs, an even wash. there will be plenty of heirloom's for my two daughters to draw straws over, they are both shooters

Personally, I'd happily take a Sig P220, Sig P227 or any .45 caliber HK in DA/SA or LEM over a 1911 any day.
.....I don't like safeties. And carrying a 1911 in condition 0 doesn't sound fun to me."The Constitution is the guide which I will not abandon.” - George Washington

NOW is the golden age of 1911s. LOTS of great options on the market. So when you decide you want to come back to bigolemetal45, there will be lots of options.
