Default Thinking of trading S&W Bodyguard towards P238. What do you think???

Thinking of trading S&W Bodyguard towards P238. What do you think???

Figured I could get $275 out of my BG w/extra magazine, box, and papers.

P238's go from $600 on up.

It would be a front pocket carry gun with inside the pocket holster.

I would carry the P238 in condition 2.

Good idea or another just loss on a trade?

    Your opinion appreciated....

If you are content and comfortable with the BG, just hold onto it. If you desire more out of it, then the P238 is a very nice upgrade. Are you set on sticking with .380? Or is a move to 9mm a possibility?

IMO, condition 2 with the P238 is a bad idea since it has no decocker. I treat my P938 just like I would a 1911, condition 1, and its been fine on my side every day for the last 2 years.

Not to mention the hammer on the Sig is tiny, and in a defense situation, I could see it being difficult to cock back.

I'm not sure that you and I are agreeing on what condition 2 is. My understanding is that condition 2 means that the chamber is empty but the magazine is loaded.

    That would be condition 3.

Condition 1 is cocked and locked.
Condition 2 is loaded mag, loaded chamber, hammer down.

I believe all three would be safe with the sig, as it has a hammer block. Personally if you're going to pocket carry I'd recommend condition 1. Trying to draw from a pocket and manipulate the slide at the same time seems pretty difficult to me.

Are you more used to shooting 1911s? If not then I think sticking to the body guard would be a better choice.
Not a big fan of safety manipulation or racking the slide while in a highly stressful situation. I think unless you are well practiced in the 1911 manual of arms then sticking to the bodyguard would be a better choice.

The P238 is one of my favorite pistols ever. Highly recommend!

For a little more you can go 938...... Condition 2 is ok with these guns, but they are about as safe as you can get in condition one. The hammer isn't hard to thumb cock if you want to go that way. The gun can be better than say an XDs in many ways since they are both single action and the sig has a thumb safety that disengages the hammer versus just blocking the sear (like a 1911), a heavy pull (comparable to many revolvers) and a firing pin block that is only de-activated when you pull the trigger. You can set a 238/938 sear spring to a pressure where the hammer will follow but it will just fire one shot. On a 1911 it would double or worse.

The thumb safety is the only real downfall as they are VERY small. but a Mustang extended safety from Cylinder and Slide is close to drop in.
