Default High quality .22 pistol full size semi-auto

I don't have any high quality .22 semi-auto pistol yet.
Looking to order one this week.
Which one do you recommend ( under $1000 ) ?

I'm also looking for semi-auto .22 rifle as well.

S&W 41. They can be found used for around $1000.

Do you consider a Ruger mark II (or III) high quality? Mine always goes bang and is more accurate than I am shooting offhand at 25 yards. I would often bring it out with a friend and shoot a brick on numerous occasions. Must have shot 20,000+ rounds and it is still ticking away with no problems.......

I personally prefer the older Mark II's with a heavy barrel.

I'm partial to the new S&W Victory which will be around $400.00 and already has a large amount of higher end match grade after market products out there.

When you see guys like .22 plinkster making 100 yard plus trick shots with a 90 year old Colt Woodsmen or a $250.00. M&P .22lr it kind of kills the need for a $1000.00 pistol that shoots ammo that costs .06 per round.

Any Ruger Mk I or II (I have two of each with the 6.5" tapered barrel in the Mk I and the 5 7/8th bull barrels in the Mk II). The Mk Is are 55 years old, the Mk IIs, 30 plus. Cannot be beaten for swallowing anything any time. I also have a 40 yr old M41 (last of those with chamber indicators) and a CT-made High Standard. Any of these will work for you. From ~$300 for the Rugers, ~$600 for the HS and around $1K for the M41. I would recommend any of the older ones and ignore the newer ones. Extremely well made in times when "plastic = bakelite" and will effectively never wear out. Dave_n

I have two Ruger Mk IIs. Great guns but horrible triggers. I bought a "real" target pistol and I went from shooting Expert to Master almost overnight.

Most .22s are insanely accurate but can be finicky about ammo. From a rest, the Ruger Mk II can shoot out the X-ring at 25 yards.

Agreed, I put in a Volquartsen trigger and with a little tinkering it is now much lighter with no creep. Its not that hard to do it yourself (safely) but even if you had to send it out to a gunsmith for a trigger job and some "accessorizing" you should still be 1/2 the price of a S&W 41.

You were ready to move up if you were shooting Master and had gotten your moneys worth out of the Ruger. The one thing that can not be fixed on the MKII is the balance and ergonomics. We have been through custom grips from two different sources but still find them lacking.
