SKS Optics
Didn't know if I should put it here or in Optics, but I have a dilemma.
I bought some Cosmoline the other day and found an SKS in it, and I really like the look of the Tapco FUSION T6 Synthetic Stock, and Want to get that for this. It comes with a top rail, but its way out in front. What kind of optic could I put on there with any sort of magnification?
(Note the real rail is something not added by the FUSION system)
If not there, the only other option is a receiver cover mount which will loose zero every time I clean it - correct? So is there any point in this path at all? If so, what would you all recommend? It's a cheap rifle, and I'm not looking to spend more than about $100 on the optics. Just want something that will work, and my life doesn't depend on it. Any insight (pun) you all can give would be greatly appreciated!

Re: SKS Optics
I can't really recommend any scout scopes, but if you are thinking of going with a receiver cover type setup, I've got 2 of different types I'm planning on selling. Let me know if you are interested and I can get you some pictures.

Re: SKS Optics
The T6 is pretty awesome, but make sure you read up on the 922r compliance rules. I think it is 5 pieces US made to make it legal...(the T6 counts for 3)

Re: SKS Optics
The rail above the gas tube isn't the greatest either. Every time you remove gas tube to clean, you'll probably have to re-zero. Also some have a little slop in the gas tube. For fun and reliability, best bet is to leave it in the stock it came with. Drilling the receiver and installing a side mount is your best bet to hold zero with a scope. Been there, done that.

Re: SKS Optics
As Rocketfoot said be careful of the 922r issues. Also IIRC there really aren't many good solid optics mounts for the SKS.
I understand the sight mount that replaces the rear sight is solid, however you sacrifice the irons for that.
Not real good options for the SKS, That's why I left mine stock.
The AK however does have a good side mount option...Drew Bingaman Chair Susquehanna Valley Libertarian Party

Re: SKS Optics
Only sight changes I have made to any of my SKSs was to install a very thin, fine front sight post from Tapco on one of my Norincos. Gives you a very refined sight picture, cuts group size. The stock sight is a good battle sight - the thin one is more for picking out targets a little more slowly, works well ar greater ranges, too. Costs about $8 each, IIRC.
Otherwise, my SKS's are stock.
I think they were done right the first time.

Re: SKS Optics
i have a yugo w/ t6 stock and had a scope on it for about 1 day .. they're plastic and dont make for a tight scope mount and like the guy above said you loose zero every time you take the gas tube off and the tube itself isnt the tighest thing either .........
