Default STI Lawman 4.0 vs. kimber Raptor Pro II vs Dan Wesson C BOb

    Hey guys,

I'm looking into each of the three guns to purchase one in the next month or so.

I am interested in 4" commander size for concealed carry in each of em.

My question is do any of you guys have any particular experience with these exact guns, and what is your opinion on the best value?

They are all mid/upper range, but the Cbob appears to have more features then the others, although I heard great things about STIs fit and finish and customer service, but I do not personally know anyone who owns an STI, and th kimber is a beautiful piece with a sound reputation.

All three will apparently eat whatever you feed it and spit it out pretty accurately.

This gun will be put into the carry rotation, most likely carried strong side behind the hip or SOB, not sure yet.

I keep going back and forth between which one I want, hopefully you guys may be able to help me make up my mind!

I've never fired an sti, from what I know of them they are high quality. Lots of guys who own them swear by them. As for kimber vs. Dan Wesson. I've fired and handled a few Kimbers and handled several Wesson's, only shot one so far. They both make a solid 1911. Just my opinion, I'd go DW. For the money they just seemed a hair above the Kimbers I've handled.

Again that's just my personal opinion. I don't think you could go wrong with any of the three.

i have a sti 2011 (not really fair to compare it), a dan wesson specialist and I have shot the full size kimber raptor. STI makes a great pistol and i think is a company that does not get enough credit. The Dan Wesson is my favorite 1911 I own. I feel that it is a great pistol for the value. I dont have any thing bad to say about kimber, but i will say i like the way my DW shoots much more. All of them are beautiful guns and cant go wrong with any of them. My opinion would be DW or STi. i feel they are just a notch above kimber. Good luck! Update us with pics of what you pick!

    Thanks glockman24!

I appreciate your input. i am leaning towards DW or STI as I sit right now.

Besides the quality factor which is obviously important, I like to have things that not everyone has, and the market seems to be flooded with all grades of Kimbers, and for good reason.

    Keep the opinions coming!

I have owned several Kimbers and they have all been great and held up well. In my full size TLE RL II I have gone through thousands of failure free rounds and can see little to no wear on the internals and it's just a damn fine pistol too shoot.

That being said I think DW is a step above Kimbers in function build quality and if I'm buying another higher priced 1911 that's where I would look to put my money. I'm sure STI is good but I've never handled or shot one so I can't coment on them.

I have a STI Duty One 4.0 in 9mm if you'd like to hear about it....

First off, I love this gun. Definitely one of the most accurate guns I own and very fun to shoot. The checkering on the slide and frame are about perfect. Great trigger. Sexy as hell.

There are some downsides, though (especially for a gun costing north of 1K). I think the finish is quite thin, it has a plastic trigger and main spring housing, and there is a palpable break in period.

I don't watch shark week. Sharks watch FLICK week.

Of the choices you mentioned, I'd definitely go with the DW. Are you looking at the CBOB or the VBOB? DW's website shows the CBOB as discontinued 2010, but from what I understand, they're still available because the V isn't Kalifornia approved.

I don't know about the C, but the V has no mim parts, if that's important to you. The VBOB's that I've handled seemed to have better fit & attention to detail than any other mid-range 1911 I've seen & I'm a big 1911 fanboy. Well worth the money IMO.

You can go to the 1911 forum website & do a search for the differences, reviews, etc.

    Ironbutt,

    Thanks for the input.

I decided I am going to go with a Dan Wesson.

I was originally looking for the Cbob, which I can get still, but I found a good price on the V-bob, like 60 dollars more, so from what I have read it seems like the VBob would definitely be the better way to go.

I am just readin through a few more reviews before I place my order, but will most likely do so today!
