This brings up an interesting dilemma for me.

I carry strictly for self-protection, but I have a consulting gig that can take me into unsavory neighborhoods at ungodly hours.

If I'm carrying while I'm working (as an independent contractor, in theory it is for myself), I always wonder if I should have 235 just to cover my backside.

In theory, the gun is not 'required' for the job, but no sane person would ever consider doing those jobs without one...there IS a far better than zero chance that I could walk into or be present during an armed robbery. In the unlikely event that I was to engage the BG while I'm doing my job, I wonder if his survivors could use a 'non-235' argument in the inevitable civil suit?

By the letter of the law, yes. Many security firms require that you already have a 235 cert before they'll even take your application.

whe you are doing your thing you are not protecting the public or somone elses property. Your LTCF dose not say except for at work. You are protecting yourself. I'm not a lawyer but I would say you are in the clear. Since you are the employer you are not breaking any of the employers rules.

from the psp website "The Lethal Weapons Training Act provides for the training and licensing of watch guards, protective patrolmen, detectives and criminal investigators, carrying and using lethal weapons in their employment."

It dosent sound like your job involves any of the listed jobs.

Anyone can apply for the training, but don't expect a lot for your money. The school I attended didn't impress me.

If you want to take the Act 235 course, you would have to get the application along with the forms for your physical and your psych exam.

You fill out the application, take it to your nearest PSP barracks. You will get finger printed and they will take your application with the money order and mail it out (this is what they did for me when I did it).

You get a physical done and get your psych exam done (the doctors will mail out the form with all the info filled out by them. Once PSP gets all your paperwork and it's in order and your background checks are in order, they will then send you a letter stating that you are approved to take the course.

Once you get the letter, you find a school in your area that offers the Act 235 and your good to go.

I do not believe so. If you can lawfully posess a firearm in PA, I believe you can get this cert.

    Be safe (and wordly).
