Re: Krylon paint removal
Yes, acids and alkalis (caustics) will corrode/dissolve aluminum and other light metals and their alloys.
However, Citristrip Gel is neither acidic or alkali; it's organic, and incompatible with acids or alkalis:
3. COMPOSITION/INFORMATION ON INGREDIENTS
CAS # Hazardous Components (Chemical Name) Concentration
872-50-4 N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone {2-Pyrrolidinone,
1-Methyl-; 1-Methylazacyclopentan-2-one} 30.0 -60.0 %
1119-40-0 Dimethyl glutarate 10.0 -30.0 %
627-93-0 Dimethyl adipate 10.0 -20.0 %

It should not harm anodized aluminum and neither should acetone / brake cleaner / toluene.
USE THESE CHEMICALS OUTSIDE, NEVER INSIDE OR NEAR FLAMMABLE OBJECTS OR OPEN FLAME. WEAR CHEMICAL RESISTANT GLOVES.

Re: Krylon paint removal
I recently bought a soda blaster from Harbor Freight. Works great at removing paint and carbon from my aluminum engine parts on the dune buggy. I was really hesitant to use it for fear it would etch my metal, but it didn't. Washes off with a rinse of water too. If you want to give it a try before using the chems , let me know. I should be home all weekend.

Carb and brake cleaner usually have xylene and MEK in them too. Those and toluene are not good for plastic. I'd try the citrus based stuff first.

Re: Krylon paint removal
Plain old white vinegar stripped paint off a gun I bought a while back. I took a few days of soaking and the paint floated to the top. No scrubbing scraping required. Its cheap and the smell wont mess you up!

Re: Krylon paint removal
Completed the job with Citristrip spray. Worked very well. It required a few coats and some brushing, but it all came off. I think there is a small haze from the paint that I just can't get off. I've used lacquer thinner, paint thinner, acetone, but it doesn't seem to change. It also may just be my eyes. I can live with it. Thanks for all the guidance.

Re: Krylon paint removal
Ok after the glowing reviews I tried Citristrip on my current projects. Damm son. I got the jell it ate the finish right off the stock and piss can barrel in just about 2 hours. It melted the foam brush I 1st used to apply it, So I used a acid brush. I think it also ate the gloves I used but didn't burn the skin. I'll post the results in my thread but yea it worked better then the carb cleaner to get off the paint. I'm sold on it.

Re: Krylon paint removal
I have just the lightest shadow of color left over from the paint now. I can live with it if i have too, but is there a way to remove it. I tried more citristrip and a brush, no love. I tried paint thinner and lacquer thinner, but no love. Any other suggestions?
