Actually it's 6 months provided the individual has not since become prohibited.

§6106. Firearms not to be carried without a license.

    (b) Exceptions.-The provisions of subsection (a) shall not apply to:

    (12) A person who has a lawfully issued license to carry a firearm pursuant to section 6109 (relating to licenses) and that said license expired within six months prior to the date of arrest and that the individual is otherwise eligible for renewal of the license.

Notice the wording "date of arrest".

Chances are if your carrying with an expired licence your going to be arrested, get a court date, and then and there you can prove you had one and you where eligible for a new LTCF.

My advice is to always CYA and renew as early as your sheriffs office will allow. Maybe you waste a few months of your LTCF over five years. But if you go to renew during one of the panics it could take longer, then say you run into some kind of administrative snafu, or someone with your name got a bad record and you get put into research, then you will be glad you still have time on your current LTCF.

While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

Why bother to argue? Let him do whatever he wants.

OTOH, why bother to wait 6mos? If someone's that much of a procrastinator , they'll probably miss the 6mo deadline too.
