Re: Two Long Years of Gathering Parts - AR15 Build
Yeah, I've certainly seen that done. Couldn't hurt to try it.
I don't really think that the "hook" catching things is a real world problem so much as it's someone's attempt to find something to rag on about the product.
I mean, look at the standard AR stock that is put on 99% of factory rifles over the last how many decades...
That sling attachment creates a MUCH more hook-like shape and I've never once heard anyone rant about how those stocks need to be modified to use them.
Anyway, I'll be happy if it doesn't rattle. I've heard others bitch that it's TOO snug. Who cares? Once it's set in the position I want it in, I have very little need to move it again.
The rubber butt is nice. The whole stock is much nicer than I had imagined. Can't wait to get it installed.

Looks like you have some good parts that should turn out nice once you put it all together.
Now that I have mastered reloading beyond the basics my next project will be to put an AR together.

Re: Two Long Years of Gathering Parts - AR15 Build
I just put a lower together for the first time today. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be. It took less than 45 min.
It was a PSA M4 MOE kit, and I got one of thier blem stripped lowers to match.
It was probably easier than stripping a 1911 down to a bare frame.

Re: Two Long Years of Gathering Parts - AR15 Build
Yeah, I tried to use parts/brands that are better than what would come with an entry level carbine without getting too crazy about it.
I try to choose "middle of the road" items in terms of price/quality when possible rather than going the least expensive route.
I just took a look at my price list and recalculated using prices for all the parts using prices I've seen for "economy" parts and had I gone that route the total price would have been almost $300 less, or $468 for the total build.
My original AR15 is pretty basic overall with the only real upgrade being the RRA 2-stage trigger. I wanted to try and build one using parts that were a little better this time.
I like the RRA trigger well enough on my original carbine, so I figured I'd just get the same one for this one keeping the feel the same between the two. I also was having a hard time spending lots of money on better triggers, so when RRA had the National Match trigger on sale for $62 I couldn't say no since they are typically $100-$119 from what I can recall.
